Skoodos says “It Is Ok Maa” to all the imperfectly perfect Mothers this Mother’s day

This Mother’s Day, tell her #ItIsOKMaa!

The changing times have made life easier for all of us except our mothers, and the expectations from a mother keep increasing. We have TV commercials that depict mothers returning from the office and helping their kids with homework while feeding them savoury snacks, portraying them as an epitome of Goddess Durga with 10 hands, each hand having a household or office tool. Upon reflection, we realize that though most the working mothers do live a life like the one above but there are several differences, the TV commercial mothers do not support backaches and dark circles like our mothers did and nor is she borderline frustrated at everything.

The commercials and depictions like these make mothers question their own situations, home-makers wonder if they are in some way not at par with the modern working mothers and the dilemma for a working mother is whether they are enough for their children and family?

This makes them question “Is she not good enough?”, “Is she a bad mother?”

We have idolized our mothers for a long, pushing them to be ideal and perfect and expecting them to be unrealistically perfect. There were times when we expected our mothers to sacrifice without any recognition but with changing times we instead of taking up responsibilities decided to put her up on a pedestal, so as to make our jobs easier. Mother is certainly a child’s first friend but to carelessly burden her with the unrealistic expectations of society.

This Mother’s Day, Skoodos, a School Search Engine has come up with a #ItIsOkMaa as their initiative, launching a campaign that endeavours to break the stigma of unrealistic expectations that we surround our mothers and making her set impractical goals for herself like taking care of the office, a kid and everyone else in the house.

Skoodos was built by a mother-daughter duo, working together to create something that would prove of assistance to the parents, students and schools as well. Education is one of the most important things that shape a child’s future and mindset and it is the biggest worry of a parent. Finding the best school has always been difficult and the pandemic made it worse, encouraging Dr Siya Seth and Shruti Verma to create Skoodos.

This mother’s day we have decided to raise an issue by telling our mothers to stop being so impractically selfless.

We all have seen working mothers and the expectation to be the supermom, who can handle everything and has answers to everything is almost inhuman, we have instilled in our society women this impractical thought that the epitome of being a good mom is neglecting their basic needs and keeping the wishes of their family and children at fore, even if they get contradictory.

What will be the reaction of people to this new thought? We are excited to know what our people have to say about this campaign.

As Skoodos believe that a happier mother can create a happier house, better childhood and empowering tomorrow.
