How many meetings do you feel like you can skip on any given day? (My number is definitely up there!)

Employees think they can skip 1/3 of the meetings they're invited to, according to a recent survey. Yet many of us still aren't turning down those meetings that are wasting our time — and women are even less likely to do so!

Your time is valuable. Tactfully removing yourself from unnecessary meetings is something to start practicing now.

Here's one approach you can start with:

If you're questioning whether you're needed in a meeting, reach out ahead of time to the meeting host.

Asking, "I want to ensure I'm as helpful as possible on this call –?what should I prepare for and where would you like me to contribute?" is a good starting point.

If the person who invited you doesn't have an answer and just wants you there to listen, suggest they record the meeting so you can watch it later (and watch it at 1.5x-2x speed to save even more time).
