Skip the resolutions. Stick to habits.
I'm not a big fan of New Year's resolutions. It's easy to lose sight of them and to see your momentum wane.
I recognize that the year starts on Jan. 1. But why focus on Jan. 1 as some arbitrary date for goal-setting? Why not make it an everyday thing?
Book writing, by nature, requires dedication and commitment. It requires consistent, ongoing effort.
A resolution represents a firm decision to do, or not do, something. But a thought to do, or not do, something is going to stay exactly that until habits are incorporated to build accountability and structure.
Resolutions are nice and all, but without habits, they'll likely fall short. Which is why it's common to make a New Year's commitment to start going to the gym more -- and by Jan. 21, you've already given up.
If your resolution this year is to write a book, great! Figure out what that will take and put a plan in place. Develop habits to support your resolution.
How much are you going to write today?

Next week?
The week after that?
