SKINNERS ARMS – A LITERARY LONDON PUB

Yesterday, I went to the British Library for a meeting to discuss the launch of a Kindle version of Congeries: a collection of creative writing - it is now available for £3 via amazon.

Afterward, Jean, Carsten and I went for a drink in the Skinners Arms. This is a well decorated traditional pub with a high ceiling, wood panelling and leaded windows.?I’ve been to the Skinners Arms several times and I like it but not when it is busy. We sat in the large alcove at the back. Jean had a couple of Merlots while Carsten and I had a couple of pints of IPA. Carsten IPA had a hint of grapefruit!

Skinners Arms is mentioned in?Christopher Fowler’s in the Peculiar Crimes Unit?mysteries.

It should not be confused with Galton and Simpson’s fictional creation the ‘Skinners Arms’ from the tremendous Steptoe and Son. Any excuse for a quote:

Albert Steptoe: (plaintively) But you always go down to the Skinners Arms on Friday and ‘ave a go at Dolly Miller - she’ll be expectin yer.
Harold Steptoe: Then you’ll have to tell I’ve got another engagement, wontcher? I can’t build my life around the Skinners Arms and Dolly Miller.
