Skincare Types and Skincare Recommendations

Your skin type is primarily determined by how much or how little, natural moisturizer your skin produces. This natural moisturizer contains both water and oil. Genes, stress level, medication, seasonal changes and other environmental factors all play a critical role in sebum or natural moisturizer production. The basic skincare types are normal, oily, dry, combination and sensitive. Sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what your skin requires to have healthy beautiful looking skin. Depending on what type of skin you have, different skincare routines with special treatments can make a huge difference and will give you, your own personal beauty secret.

Normal Skin

If you are one of the lucky ones, you have normal skin- which has a good balance of oil and water. Normal skin’s surface has a smooth and even texture. Sometimes a slightly oilier t-zone (forehead and nose area) is quite common but without any real problem. However, it is very important to use good skincare products that won’t strip your skin’s natural oil. The main goal is to keep the perfect balance and maintain the skin’s health. This skin type is lucky to have a variety of options for beauty care. Dermalogica has a wonderful skincare line suitable for normal and/or sensitive skin. If you want serious anti-aging benefits, the AGE Smart would be an excellent choice. Just remember to pay attention and be flexible with your skincare routine and adjust as necessary to maintain optimal balance.

Dry Skin

Dry skin is due to an insufficient amount of natural moisturizer in the skin, especially with a dramatic decrease in sebum and oil production. Dry skin feels tight all over, especially after cleansing and the skin appears flaky and dull. If you have dry skin, rich but not heavy products, SKIN SMOOTHING CREAM by Dermalogica will work best for your fragile skin. This skin type is most prone to fine lines, wrinkles, and irritation and keep in mind that a thick build-up of dead skin also contributes to dryness. Using the DAILY MICROFOLIANT and INTENSIVE MOISTURE BALANCE 2-3 times a week will make a dramatic difference.

Oily Skin

Oily skin tends to be very shiny and has large pores and is prone to blackheads and breakouts. While your instincts might guide you to skip moisturizer and use something to dry your skin out a bit, it could be a huge mistake. Anything too strong or soap based will dry your skin out too much and could cause your skin to compensate by producing even more oil. You want to use gentle cleansing, balancing, and moisturizing products. The MEDIBAC and CLEAR START are the most suitable for slightly oily skin, or if your skin is very oily and acne-prone, you can use the  CLEAR START and you may want to use the moisturizer from the same line to keep your water level up. Exfoliating and masking will help to control excess sebum and prevent black heads and blemishes.
