Skills vs Roles

Last week, I was delighted to attend my first "in person" event at eightfold.ai at The Ned in London after 2 years of attending virtual events!?

I thought I'd share some insights from last week's learnings which were focused around understanding skills in our current workforce and how this will be a gamechanger to help us get prepared for a different way of hiring, developing, engaging and retaining talent:

The Challenge:

·??????More than 1bn jobs will be transformed by Tech

·??????1 in 3 skills will become irrelevant

·??????There will be a 20% shortfall in workers by 2030

·??????75% of recruitment issues will be based on skills shortages

·??????People are choosing roles based on psychological factors more than salaries

Internal mobility tech – why is it important more than ever?

  1. Biggest concern for CEO’s: ?Number 1 workforce importance that will deliver ROI is up-skilling and re-skilling the workforce
  2. Biggest concern for HR:?Improving workforce planning and re-engineering talent processes to focus on skills.

There are many platforms such as eightfold.ai that enable us to understand and have access to skills and capabilities that already exist in our workforce, aligning career interests to experiences, and ensuring there is availability of tools and mentors to help with our careers. In some organisations it has also had an impact on diverse internal talent moves.?However, to influence the business case, it’s key to ensure there is "belief" from Hiring Managers as well as having the right tech and processes in your business.?Conducting design sessions to answer “why would people benefit from this” is also very important in planning the business case. ?
