Skills to create magical moments

Skills to create magical moments

A leader is someone who achieves important business goals by empowering others and creating the conditions where they can thrive.

Leadership is a touch sport.

Leaders need to inspire others so that they can get the intended work done. Leadership comes from how you think, act, and treat others - not from your title or personality.

?Leadership involves leading people, developing people, and delivering results.

The leadership job begins by understanding what the organization expects them to do. This involves understanding an organization's goals, seeking clarity about their own role and responsibilities.

Once a leader is clear about their role and responsibilities, the people part comes. They have to get the job done through people. Leaders focus on relationship building so that they can understand others, align them towards the team goals.

While people are doing their jobs the leaders need to give them feedback and hold them accountable towards the expected performance.

People’s development is another critical aspect of a leader’s job. Leaders must understand what skills their people need to do the job successfully. Leaders indulge in developing people’s skills and commitment.

?Many Leaders struggle with people issues

People leadership requires the following skills

  • Intrapersonal skills such as self-awareness and self-management.
  • Interpersonal skills such as relationship building, developing people and performance management
  • Business skills such as decision making, problem solving and managing conflict.

Most leaders focus on the above-mentioned skills. These skills require time to fructify. ?While the leaders are focused on the long-term results at times, they struggle with people issues. Others do not trust them. People are not fully aligned to the team and organizational goals. Leaders also find it difficult to hold people accountable when they miss the deadlines or go over budget for the projects.

Leadership in the Moment

People leaders need to capture the crucial moments. They need to create influence in the moment. For this to happen, they need to know what skills can help them create magic in the moment.

The leaders need to know what can help them to create influence in the moment. What skills can help them influence others in those crucial moments?

What should the leaders do so that others feel respected, empowered, and motivated to do what the leader is asking them to do?

There are three skills that can help leaders transform crucial moments into magical moments. These skills are at times overlooked in search of other skills. These skills are easy to understand but in a fast-paced competitive environment difficult to practice. Their mastery requires a very high degree of self-management.

?Three skills that create magical moments

1.????Being respectful - Feeling respected by others often is a top human need. Yet disrespectful and uncivil behavior is commonplace. Respecting someone means that we acknowledge the individual without any judgement about their work or skills. When we acknowledge someone, it satisfies a very basic human need, A need to feel included.?It’s signaled by civility and an atmosphere suggesting that every member of the group is inherently valuable. Every employee should feel that his or her dignity is recognized and respected. This is especially important for lower-level workers.

The first thing that a leader should keep in mind when interacting with others is how he/she can convey respect towards others.

?

2.????Being present - A leader needs to create a safe space for people to be able to be present fully in the moment and express themselves. We are living in a distracted world. A leader is handling many things at the same time.

Our inner voices are the commentaries we lend to our experiences. To truly engage other human beings and create meaningful connections, leaders need to silence their inner voices and be fully present - and being more mindful can help.

The person in front of you does not know what you were dealing with a moment ago, nor should they. It’s your responsibility to show up and be fully present to effectively?use the limited time you have with each person you meet.

?

3.????Being interested - Leaders often have an inflated idea of how easy it is for others to speak honestly to them.?They often take power for granted. As a member of a privileged in-group, leaders forget what it is like to be in the less privileged out-group. Being genuinely curious about other perspectives requires a humility that can be in short supply as you head up the organizational hierarchy.

When you take an interest in others you build their confidence and self-esteem,?you make them feel important, valued, and worthwhile.

These magical skills are Being Skills

There is a distinction between?doing?and?being.

Doing?is what you?do. It’s the actions you take. It’s the decisions you make. It’s your behavior and all its visible manifestations.

Being?is who you?are. It’s what’s underneath all of the?doing. It’s your qualities, your thought patterns, and your conditioning. It’s the pattern of beliefs that you hold about yourself and your environment. It’s your worldview.

Inspirational leadership has its genesis in transactional interactions of a leader. Leadership is a mutual transaction. When we respect others, are present to them fully and are genuinely interested in them they feel respected and are empowered to express themselves fully.

Charanjit As a Leader without being a Leader I have been doing leadership indirectly. Since I engaged on LinkedIn, the processes i have learnt over the times I was employed created knowledge. I chose to not be a victim this last year to Empower Others. I have embraced spirituality and have God within my path. I have chosen to not be stagnant and embrace Respect.. Although I am not qualified as a leader, I know job prospects are low because I failed school, so I will , enable others to achieve their dreams be being a positive light. Thank You Charanjit for your continual support of me and your wonderful posts. I Appreciate You I Believe in You ???? Happy Weekend Dear Friend ????
