Skills-based organizations are focused on future-ready systems.

This is the seventh installment of our 15-part series on HR Predictions for 2024: Imperatives for the Year Ahead report.

Prediction #7: HR will get pragmatic about the skills-based organization.?

Skills-based hiring, promotion & pay, career management, and workforce planning are hot topics for HR professionals at every level. While the discussion of the value of skills-based approaches is lively, many teams struggle with the "how" of implementing this modern model.?

Over the past few decades, HR technology providers have evolved their approach, starting with competence management, where competencies were attached to jobs and "skills" was just a search term, to current, more advanced models that infer skills from employee profiles.

The evolution continues, though, with new data sources and a focus on developing future-ready systems.?

While the journey to a skills-based focus will undoubtedly continue, a pragmatic perspective on the whole concept will help leaders and practitioners avoid strategy confusion. At the Academy, we encourage HR practitioners to "fall in love with the problem" rather than the solution for the highest return on technology and infrastructure investments.?

In support of a "fall in love with the problem" mentality, Academy experts recommend building the skills of a Strategic HR Business Partner to become a strategic advisor, influential storyteller, and data-driven problem solver. Once you've identified the problem you're hoping to solve, the HR Tech Workshop?will ensure the selection and implementation of a supportive technology engages both stakeholders and employees.?
