Skilled Trades!
I often post content to LinkedIn and use the hashtag #tradesarecool. I am always amazed at the skill of those who find a way to get Customers back up and running even under the most challenging circumstances. Mechanics, machinists, millwrights, sandblast and coating professionals, transportation and field service technicians all working together as a team to serve the Customer. What follows is a true testimony to all of the skilled trades folks in our shop. I salute and thank you for what you do everyday to keep America up and running.
Kennedy received this super critical pump in from a customer that had sent the pump to several other competitors. Each competitor said the same thing, the bearing housing was destroyed and the part was now obsolete.
A new pump was quoted at 12-14 weeks (during Covid could really be 18-24 weeks) which was not an option for the Customer. They needed this pump up and running now.
Our team of journeymen jumped at the chance to turn this pump around quickly and designed and manufactured a new bearing housing at Kennedy.
Simultaneously the volute was being sand blasted (we don't sandblast bearing housings, they are wire wheel cleaned) and inspected as was the impeller and shaft. Once these items passed inspection the impeller was assembled on the shaft and balanced to ISO G 2.5. Ceramic coating the impeller and volute ensure long service life and is done in-house.
Final assembly was then started and the new bearing housing was installed. Before the lid is put on the gasket is cut and the entire rotating assembly is turned by hand.
The lid was then installed and the pump was hydro-statically tested and sent to paint. The pump will then be prepped for shipment and loaded on one of our trucks for delivery to the Customer.
Behind every internal process is a skilled trade professional that takes complete pride knowing that without them this repair would not be possible. I know they are as proud of the job they do everyday as I am of them. Thank you! #tradesarecool
