The Skilled Migrant Visa Category reopens to help New Zealand's businesses attract international talent

???New Zealand Government has announced the reopening of the Skilled Migrant visa categories, helping businesses attract talent during global worker shortages.

???From the 9th of November 2022, selections of Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the Skilled Migrant Residence Category Visa will resume.?The New Zealand Government will select the first EOIs with at least 160 points from the 9th of November 2022 and EOIs with at least 180 points from the 18th of January 2023. After the 18th of January 2023, selections will be monthly, where EOIs must have at least 180 points to be chosen.

???For the first time since the onset of the global pandemic, Skilled Migrants and Working Holiday Makers are returning Down Under as both countries struggle with extreme skill shortages.

???Australia: More than two million visas processed as demand soars?

Australia’s population grew by only 0.25% in December 2021 quarter, and by 0.5% through 2021. Without immigration as the main source of population growth, Australia’s economic prosperity would be in danger. The current federal government is well aware of it and introducing a number of measures to convince skilled migrants to move Down Under.

???Arrivals to New Zealand slowly increasing each month

According to Stats NZ, annual arrivals into New Zealand were just under 1.3 million in the 12 months to August 2022. This is a big increase from the previous 12 months to August 2021 (400,300 arrivals), but still a far cry from pre-pandemic levels (12 months to August 2019 – 7.1 million arrivals).?

Two world-class?consortia selected as preferred bidders for North East Link?Program

???Two world-class consortia have been selected for Melbourne's North East Link Program.

?? The Nexus consortium has been selected as the preferred bidder for the first part of a significant overhaul of the Eastern Freeway. The work between Burke Road and Tram Road will connect with the new North East Link Tunnels and will include new technology, express lanes, cycling paths and the first seven kilometres of the Eastern Express Busway.

?? The AMA consortium has been chosen to complete the M80 Ring Road at Greensborough. The work will include new lanes, innovative technology, a seamless interchange with North East Link and Greensborough Bypass, a new multi-level car park at Watsonia Station and walking and cycling connections.

Additional $9.6 billion for infrastructure projects announced in the 2022/23 Australian budget

?? The main projects included in the Budget are as follows:

  • $300 million for Western Sydney Roads Package and $500 million for the High-Speed Rail Authority
  • $2.2 billion for the Suburban Rail Link in Victoria
  • $586.4 million of additional funding for a major upgrade of the Bruce Highway to widen a 13-kilometre stretch through Brisbane’s outer northern suburbs
  • $1.5 billion for upgrading important freight highways, sealing the Tanami, and upgrading Central Arnhem Road, as well as the Dukes, Stuart and Augusta highways in SA
  • $540 million to upgrade Tasmania’s important road corridors, including the Bass Highway, the Tasman Highway and the East and West Tamar Highways.
  • $125 million in funding to help build an electric bus network for Perth

Rocklea Station and Fairfield Station will be rebuilt as part of Cross River Rail's station upgrade?program. Construction is currently happening during track closures while the rail corridor is safe.?

Crews can be seen lowering 270m of dual gauge track at Rocklea Station, as well as the new pedestrian overpass being installed at Fairfield Station.

???A firm understanding of survey functions for civil and construction works;

???Proficient knowledge in modern survey instrumentation;

???Highly skilled both in office and field environments;

???Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Survey Managers

???8+ years of experience in surveying large infrastructure projects;

???Previous experience with a reputable survey company;

???Previous experience managing and leading a team;

???Tertiary qualification in surveying or similar;

???A firm understanding of providing survey functions for civil and construction works.
