The definition of an effective leader is changing. The post-pandemic era wants leaders to put in more emphasis on EQ.
What Is EQ?

EQ is Emotional Intelligence.
As a Global Talent Acquisition Specialist, my experience is that people want to get into the next level of their careers. However, they are reluctant to really understand the root cause of the problem they have.
That's where Emotional Intelligence come into play.
Emotional Intelligence is not about how smart you are. It’s about how well you communicate and pickup on human communication signals. When we delve into the core of emotional intelligence we can find out that it’s about knowing yourself. Also, what we need to understand is that our performance, behaviour and thinking are influenced by the environment we are in, who have we surrounded ourselves with. This is because you will be the product of your environment.
You require emotional intelligence to transform your talent into a skill. EQ will tell you what you should do and your inner voice is influenced by emotional intelligence too.
How is emotional intelligence linked to you as a career seeker ?
Let’s revisit the fact we discussed about knowing yourself. Think for yourself whether your are growing in your career with your current job, do you have learning opportunities ? does the environment encourage you to push limits ?
To think about all these aspects, you need emotional intelligence. That’s why we mentioned, this skill will make you a winner. You need to know yourself to come out of the stagnation you are in. If you are stuck in your career now, develop the skill of emotional intelligence. Then, you will be able to make a better decision about your career.

As humans, we must develop the ability to identify and understand another loving being’s emotions and this makes an impact on the empathy we showcase which is an essential characteristic of a leader.
2. Categorise different feelings
Feelings are diverse. Our various thoughts trigger the emotional side of the our brains. Therefore, it’s important to categorise these feelings. If we are emotional when taking decisions, a subtle mistake can cause chaos.
3. Process that information to transform your thinking and behaviour.
Once you categorise the feelings, you need to process the feelings and understand how you can transform your mindset and behaviour. How can I do a particular activity better than this? What needs to be improved to enhance my knowledge? The processing of information will enable you understand better about how you should think keeping humanity at the back of your mind at all times. Humanity can do magic.
Emotional intelligence helps you get a better understanding about your personality, strengths and weaknesses. A recent research has shown that even though people think that they are 95% self aware, it’s actually 10-15%.
Korn Ferry International says that organizations with strong financial performance tend to have employees with higher levels of self-awareness than poorly performing companies. Therefore, developing the skill of emotional intelligence of your employees is a responsibility of you as an employer.
Another aspect of emotional intelligence is openness. You become more curious and you seek for more information. It will make you a more open-minded individual.
Therefore, emotional intelligence is connected to financial performance.
Emotional intelligence is certainly the fuel you need to propel in your life and career.
You will become someone adaptable in social environments when you are emotionally intelligent.
