SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND EMPLOYMENT CREATION
Skill Development is still in a very nascent stage in India. There is a huge gap in terms of our conventional education and the skills that is required to get a job. There is a disconnect in skills that is acquired through conventional method of education and the requirements of a job. So India has to deal with growing unemployment at a large scale.
Let us look at the rural landscape as of now.
In the rural landscape below poverty line people are not trained or skilled enough to get a job or be employable. Thus a vast majority of the population is still dependent on agriculture.
Many companies are doing excellent work in skilling and training the rural people under various government schemes so that they can be employable and get a job. But there is a big challenge to create employment opportunities at the grass root level since there is a disconnect in the course in which people are trained and proper linkages with jobs that are available. There is dearth of industrialization and manufacturing sector in the rural landscape also which adds to the issue.
Synergy between training courses and its relevance to employment creation is the need of the hour. We have to create a content and course which has industrial linkages . We have to create awareness and mobilize the people towards skilling .

8 年You are right Ashish. However my experience says the bigger challenge is awareness among the section you have mentioned. We are yet to observe the impact of these initiatives by government, not because of lack of training OR employment opportunities but because these programs are perceived as an opportunity to get something for free and most of these kids/beneficiaries are not even interested in placements. Today you go to any remote location, you will get training providers. With proper awareness they may start taking it seriously and their parents will also push them. I feel once this happens, employment will not be a problem as they have multiple options including self employment. GOVERNMENT has to play a larger role in this.

8 年Thanks Ashish for throwing light on this most important area. To quote SRM University topper is waiting for a job with L&T for over a year. This thing about skill development has to come into affluent homes. Unless you and I don't send our not so academically bright kids to skill courses NOTHING will change. Show me a Skill institute in India where you will send your son or daughter to study. I can't think of any and therefore I too have to push my daughter into conventional courses knowing fully well that her heart is not with pure academics.
