SKER launch day
Congratulations to the Southern Koala & Echidna Rescue (SKER) team for your successful launch event
Thank you for having us!
So, what was this all about? Well, SKER have launched their purpose built and wonderful facility in the Onka Hills. We recently witnessed first hand how it all works - and it is the stuff of legends, with the native injured animals rest and recovery first and foremost in mind.
We attended the new facility's launch day along with a raft of dignitaries and media. It was GREAT to see the support and community effort for SKER on the day.
SKER was founded by Mish and Wade Simpson in 2018 and continues to be run by fully trained, professional carer’s and a team of passionate volunteers, including vets and vet nurses. *Announced at the launch is the hope to fund a fully paid Vet.
The charity has been responsible for the recovery and rehabilitation of many Koalas, Echidna’s and other native wildlife that have fallen victim to bushfires, car accidents and other forms of misadventure including run-ins with domestic dogs.
Over the past few years, in growing their service, they have worked closely with other rescuers, sanctuaries, specialist vets, CFS, traffic management, arborists and government bodies in South Australia and nationally. They are now at the forefront of the fight in South Australia to protect and rehabilitate injured native wildlife.
The Torrens River Branch Lions have volunteered (for a day - and hope to go back) and we are fundraising for them through the 2022 Vintage Ball and Vintage Fashion Festival.
