"Absolutely not! Red wine is the only pleasure left in my life! I'm not going to give it up because of a damn migraine!"

Skeptical Red Wine Enthusiast

This story is both a funny memory and a great showcase of what happens if you experience several migraine attacks every week. It also highlights what occurs when your body starts functioning normally.

Tina, 28, a professional in the accounting department of a stock exchange-listed corporation, was struggling with four to five weekly migraine attacks when she came to ask for my help. Her job, which requires accuracy and sharp thinking, caused her significant stress, as she worried about her ability to even keep the job if she couldn't get her migraines under control. Like all my migraine clients, she faced enormous stress from constantly feeling unwell.

Skeptical Red Wine Enthusiast

From the first meeting, two things about Tina's challenging situation stood out. First, she was extremely skeptical about my ability to help her. Second, she mentioned that red wines were her leisure-time pleasure. With 29 years of experience in migraine care, you don't hear that very often.

I remember once gently asking, in a roundabout way, whether she could consider laying off red wine for a little while until her body started functioning better. She wouldn't need to become a total abstainer. Tina's answer and determination brought a wide smile to my face. "Absolutely not! Red wine is the only pleasure left in my life! I'm not going to give it up because of a damn migraine!" Tina replied firmly. Her reply and the fiery spark in her eyes assured me that she was going to be absolutely fine. A person with that level of determination and fighting spirit surely beats the "bugger" (migraine or another bugger). Indeed, she came out as a winner. One evening, when we had a scheduled coaching session, she came in with a big smile on her face. I hardly managed to ask, "How are you?" before she launched into her energetic and excited explanation. "I drank four glasses of red wine the day before yesterday! No migraine! Now, I believe this thing!" Her face was so full of happiness and her eyes expressed pure joy at having started to get her life back from migraine. I couldn't hold back my smile. Not many migraine sufferers announce so strongly that they can now have a drink or two whenever they want! Tina's story is a great example of what happens when you get your body functioning normally after being messed up for years by migraines. Constant migraines drive the body's functions and stamina out of balance, and in that state, even very usual things can trigger a migraine attack. The more severe the off-balance situation is, the more fragile the body is. The good news is that a chronic state doesn't mean that a person is going to suffer from constant migraine attacks for the rest of their days; an enormous amount can be done, and a person can enjoy an absolutely normal life and do all kinds of things without limitations. It just requires the right kind of self-care tools, which first actively fix the "fire state" (constant migraines and their byproducts) and then, when constant migraines are no longer disturbing everyday life, maintain that good, normal state. Once again, the effort required to succeed is similar to keeping your teeth healthy and shiny. You have to take the right kind of action every day.
