Six years in the making – how unwavering focus helped me achieve my goal and here’s how you can do it too

Six years in the making – how unwavering focus helped me achieve my goal and here’s how you can do it too

Back in 2014, I was working in a digital agency and ‘Traction’ was recommended as a good book to read – that’s where I first discovered the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) as this book describes it in detail. The content resonated with me so much – both reflecting on the company I was working for and the experiences gained running my own business, that I felt compelled and driven to research EOS further, only to find it hadn’t hit the UK or even Europe yet.

I made the decision I wasn’t going to let this hold me back, so put myself through a Bootcamp being hosted in the US. I was fortunate enough to be trained by Gino Wickman himself (author of Traction and founder of EOS). It was from that point that I knew my goal – to take EOS back to the UK, scale it, and one day train people to do what Gino does – and I am proud to say that this has been achieved.

Last week was a double ‘pinch myself’ moment as I delivered the first-ever 2-day European Bootcamp for EOS Worldwide and also hosted its Quarterly Collaborative Exchange – this was a day spent leading the entire team of European Implementers through a ‘sharpen the saw’ session as we, like all of the entrepreneurial organisations we support, focus on growth in 2021.

2-day European Bootcamp for EOS Worldwide

As with most goal-setting exercises, it’s taken a lot of hard work and focus to get there, but I couldn’t be prouder to be part of an organisation that is helping transform thousands of businesses, growing them from good to great, as it builds momentum across the globe.

How I achieved my goal

For most of us, staying on track and keeping the momentum behind achieving a goal can be challenging as work and life tends to get in the way and de-rail us, but my mantra has always been simple:

“If you know where you’re going, you’re more likely to get there."

For me, once I knew the “destination”, I started looking out for opportunities along the way to take me closer to my goal, making decisions that aligned with this vision. Keeping your vision totally clear and filtering out any decisions or choices that do not contribute towards that target being achieved need to be quashed or navigated in such a way you are always on track. Keeping this relentless focus helps you decide whether to take and explore an opportunity, or whether you can let it go.

And for me, everything that moved me closer to my dream was a yes.

Everything that took me away from it, was a no.

I know this might sound easy, but I also think a large part of achieving success is being vocal about what you want. Make it public, make it known. Voice what you want, to the right people and surround yourself with people who also want you to succeed. It is possible to do it alone, but having a community makes it a lot easier (and enjoyable).

So my advice to anyone who has a vision and hasn’t quite got there is:

Write it down. Document it. Obsess over it.

So, what’s next?

Behind-the-scenes European Bootcamp for EOS Worldwide

It’s only really just begun – as a community leader for EOS Worldwide, we’re on the journey to helping 100,000 companies realise their full potential and I’m so excited to be part of a community helping more businesses access our systems.

I’ve helped nearly 60 businesses so far and I am looking forward to adding many more to this over the coming years. I am passionate about helping entrepreneurial businesses and their leadership teams and will continue ‘banging the drum’ about all things EOS.

If you are interested in knowing more about how EOS can work for you and your leadership team, then let's organise a quick 15-minute chat - I’d love to help.
