“Six things not to say at dinner”

Hey friend,

According to the school for modern etiquette (it’s a thing) the six things you shouldn’t talk about at a dinner party are as follows:

#1 - Relationships

#2 - Health

#3 - Family

#4 - Politics

#5 - Religion

#6 - Money

Well based on that looks like we are going to spend 2 hours talking about the weather.

Or the nextdoor neighbour’s guttering.

How beige.

I’d rather get an Uber Eats and talk to my self if that’s the case.

Let’s try this instead.

If you invite me around for dinner I’m likely to come (I love food) and when we crack open the bread rolls for the soup, if you ask me what I do I’d probably break as many social conventions as I could by responding with a selection of the following:

Relationships

My Dad ran a massive haulage business, it went bankrupt. The family suffered.

My Mum always wanted her own hairdressing business. She sacrificed the dream for the family.

????This is why I make sure nobody has to choose beween time with the family and financial freedom.

Health

A business owner’s mental health is often in direct correlation with their cash flow.

????This is why I make sure they have recurring revenue.

Family

Launching a business with the right support can be one of the most effective vehicles to provide a legacy for those you care about

???? This is why I make sure clients are building from a solid financial foundation.

Politics

Nobody is coming to save you politically. You need to pro-actively invest in a tribe that looks after its own

????This is why I am fanatical about putting people in community.

Religion

There is a biblical mandate to help as many people as you can. That takes money. Making money is a holy calling.

????This is why I am passionate about commercial discipleship.

Money

The more you make the more people you can help.

????I think I made my point here ??

I remember hearing Tony Robbins say once that “Business is a spiritual game” and I could not agree more.

It takes ALL of you to create SOMETHING from NOTHING which BLESSES you financially and SERVES the world’s greatest needs.

Also if you have something that will bless the world, you need to get it in front of as many people as possible.

As someone much wiser than me said: “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act” Prov 3:27

So on that, can we drop the weird conventions.

Can we commit to having conversations that really matter?

At the dinner table or otherwise.
