DMAIC and DMADV are both methodologies used in Six Sigma, a data-driven approach to process improvement. While both DMAIC and DMADV are used to improve processes, they are used in different situations and have different steps.
DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. This methodology is used when a process is already in place, but is not performing as well as it should be. The steps in DMAIC are as follows:
On the other hand, DMADV stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, and Verify. This methodology is used when a new process or product is being developed. The steps in DMADV are as follows:
In summary, DMAIC is used to improve existing processes, while DMADV is used to design new processes or products. Both methodologies follow a structured approach with specific steps, but the focus of each is different.
DMAIC or DMADV which is more relevant

Whether DMAIC or DMADV is more relevant depends on the specific situation and project goal.
If the goal is to improve an existing process or solve a problem with an existing process, then DMAIC is more relevant. DMAIC is designed to improve existing processes by identifying the root cause of problems, analyzing data, and implementing solutions to make improvements.
On the other hand, if the goal is to create a new process or product, then DMADV is more relevant. DMADV is designed to create new processes or products by identifying customer needs, measuring critical quality characteristics, analyzing data, designing a process that meets customer needs, and verifying the design before implementing it.
In general, DMAIC is more commonly used because most organizations have existing processes that need improvement. However, if an organization is launching a new product or process, then DMADV would be more relevant. Ultimately, the choice between DMAIC and DMADV depends on the project goal and the specific situation.
Conclusion:
Both DMAIC and DMADV are integral parts of Six Sigma, offering structured approaches to process improvement and design. While DMAIC is suited for enhancing existing processes, DMADV is applied when creating new products or processes. Whether reducing defects in manufacturing or designing user-friendly software applications, these methodologies provide organizations with systematic tools to achieve high-quality outcomes and customer satisfaction.

If you think six-sigma's Big project focus that develops few and involves few creates a effective improvement culture your wrong. If you think that the spread of the six-sigma fad was not the work of a self-confessed Con man, your wrong. If you think six-sigma does not have a high long term failure rate your wrong. If you think six-sigma is anything but a failed fad your wrong, If you think that six-sigma has massive unique features that only a belted one can utilize, your wrong. Actually, six sigma has only two totally unique features: Colored belts and the moronic allowable shifts.
