An itch you can’t relieve can be torturous, especially when it is in a personal place such as your vagina. Are you suffering from an itch down there? Do you know what is causing it? Having vaginal itching is more common than you may realize and there could be an array of causes. Let’s dive into what could be causing that itch down there.
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
There are STIs that can cause vaginal itching such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, and more. They may or may not cause other symptoms such as vaginal discharge and painful urination.
Menopause
There are many symptoms during the transition to and through menopause. The hormone changes that are involved in menopause can cause vaginal dryness which can lead to vaginal itching.
Vaginal Yeast Infection
Yeast infections are caused by fungus. This fungus can cause vaginal discharge, inflammation, and vaginal itching. Unfortunately, yeast infections are common but luckily, they are easily treatable.

Bacterial Vaginosis
Bacterial vaginosis is caused by too many bacteria in the vagina. The risk of bacterial vaginosis is increased by sex and douching. Bacterial vaginosis is most common in women of childbearing age. Symptoms of bacterial vaginosis include vaginal discharge, odor, and itching.
Skin Conditions Such as Eczema and Psoriasis
Common skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis can cause irritation and itching in the vaginal area.
Skin Irritants
Just like the rest of the skin on your entire body, the skin of your genitals can become irritated if exposed to a product that irritates it. Some common products that may irritate your skin could be soap, body wash, sprays, laundry detergents, lotions, and scented feminine products.
