Six Pack Abs and Six Sigma!

About a year and half back roughly, I decided to lose weight. I had to, because I weighed 74 Kgs (163 lbs), had started to get a stubborn tummy (which just wont go away.....ugghhhhh) and unable to run even 50 meters without panting heavily! My cholesterol level was also high (204 mg/dL - healthy cholesterol level should be below 200).  What I found in my journey is that there are many similarities between getting fit (besides aiming for six pack abs!) and what I was practicing in my work life - Continuous Improvement. It takes a good amount of hard work, perseverance and discipline to get fit and most importantly sustain the fitness (for example, waist to height ratio of 0.5).  Similarly, it takes an equally good amount of hard work (if not more), perseverance and discipline to continuously improve our business processes and sustain the improvements. Today, I weigh around 59 Kgs (130 lbs), my body fat is about 11.4% (trying to get to single digit body fat %), its a journey....!

Here are some of the similarities....

Good luck to all and lets keep challenging the status quo!!!!

Dr. Khwaja Moinuddin great comparison between six Sigma and six pack ?? Very true that they are not intended as short term gimmicks but meant to be used as a life long life style/work style improvement. The expected outcome requires a lot of commitment and consistency. Thank you for the share.

Thought provoking correlation between six pack and six sigma. Journey to six pack would be an enjoyable one whereas the milestones for six sigma ride should throw some good insights. Body fat below 10% might be difficult to maintain unless you become a pro. Six sigma outcome will have more avenues to improve and would have a healthy impact. Good luck Doc
