As I reflect on the journey of writing and publishing "Ditch the Billable Hour!" I am incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support the book has received since its release on January 28th. The response from the legal community and beyond has been inspiring and humbling.
First and foremost, my heartfelt thanks go to everyone who has purchased, read, and shared the book, as well as those who invited me to speak at conferences or hosted me on podcasts. Your willingness to embrace the concepts of value-based pricing and consider transforming the traditional billable hour model is the highest compliment an author can receive. Thank you.
Impact on Clients, Lawyers, and Businesses
It has been incredibly rewarding to see the book spark meaningful conversations and drive change within the legal industry. Many of you have shared success stories about how the principles outlined in the book have helped deliver greater value to clients, improve lawyer satisfaction, and enhance overall business performance. Your feedback and real-world applications of value-based pricing bring the book's concepts to life. However, we know there is still more to do.
Thank you to all of the firms who have invited me into their offices to meet with their staff and help them on their VBP journeys.
Community and Contributions
I am deeply grateful to all the wise individuals who contributed to the book—you know who you are. The insights, experiences, and expertise shared during the interview process enriched the content and provided a well-rounded perspective on implementing value-based pricing in law firms. Special thanks to Mitch Kowalski , John Chisholm , Will Whawell John Giles , Graeme J. Dan Warburton Paul Roberts , and Genevieve Landricombe for their reviews and endorsements on Linkedin and Amazon.
Publishers and Partners
A huge thank you to James Lumsden-Cook from Hawksmoor Publishing for believing in this project from the very beginning. Your unwavering support, professional guidance, and dedication to excellence have been instrumental in bringing this book to fruition. It literally would not be here without you! You even came up with the title as you disliked my suggestion!

Many of you have posted pictures of yourselves holding the book, shared your favourite excerpts, and engaged in discussions about its content. Seeing these posts and reading your comments has been incredibly rewarding.
Looking Ahead
While the journey so far has been remarkable, I believe this is just the beginning. I am delighted to have been approached to speak at events in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, and I hope to attend those in the future. The legal profession is on the cusp of a significant transformation, and I am excited to see how value-based pricing continues to evolve and reshape our industry. I encourage all readers to keep sharing their VBP experiences, challenges, and successes as we collectively work towards a more client-centric and sustainable model of legal practice.

4 个月Go you Shaun. Great you have been able to create such an impact on the legal profession in such a short time showing professionals that there is a much much better way of practicing their craft that not only benefits themselves but also their team members, their clients and the profession at large.

4 个月Something that has peeked my interest Shaun Jardine in the last six months is the amount of non-lawyers who work in the legal sector have mentioned the book to me. Talking to software providers, other project managers and funders many have mentioned the book. Some have even had the privilege of meeting Declan in the flesh. There is a Shaun says much to do to bring the legal sector in line with so many other service providers in providing a service that reflects the value it brings and isn'tmeasured by the fact that you can send 45 individual Whats App messages of often one or two words and charge 1 unit a time. This does happen believe me I see it on a regular basis. The world is changing and unless change is sought the iceberg may well melt quicker than many would like, but for those who see the light the change can be dramatic.
