Six Months In: My Journey at Operis So Far

Application and interview process
My application process consisted of 3 stages: online application, initial interview and case study interview. The initial interview involved answering some generic questions and solving several numerical puzzles. The case study interview involved preparing a solution to a real-life problem pre-interview and then presenting it to the senior management team in the interview. Honestly, I didn’t know how to approach this problem, since I have never done something like this before. And of course, my solution was not ideal to say the least, but surprisingly, that wasn’t what was expected of me. What was, I think, very important is being a good communicator and explaining your ideas and reasonings clearly. After all, collaboration and teamwork are a big part of our job and success. Therefore, my advice to future candidates is to not worry too much if your solution is not perfect, but be mindful of what decisions you made and why. And of course, try to see if you actually enjoy this kind of work, because this task is very similar to those we focus on every day.
Onboarding & my first project
During my first two weeks at Operis, I was completing an internal financial modelling and audit training course. I found it quite challenging, but very effective - I still use the tips I learnt during this training in my everyday work.
Then, I got assigned to my first audit project approximately 3 weeks after the start. Of course, my biggest fear was the possibility of making an error that would affect the entire project. Little did I know that all work on any project gets checked and reviewed multiple times by the senior management team, so even if I make an error, it will be spotted and corrected at some point during the review.

How do I feel now?
I am extremely happy with my progress so far and I feel much more confident in my role now. As one of my colleagues said, “Real learning begins with you first project” and that is 100% true.
Favourite thing at Operis
Definitely, the team. I feel that all people I have met at Operis are very intelligent, friendly and always ready to help. Also, I love that I always get the opportunity to learn something new: on our weekly trainings, or through exposure to different projects or during small talk with my colleagues.

Future plans
In the future I am planning to continue developing in my role and participating in more complex projects. I believe that with the effort of our big team we could make a significant contribution to the success of the company.
