Six degrees of separation?
This is something of an experiment into the strength of social and business networks. Based on the well-known premise that we are all only six steps away from Kevin Bacon, I'm trying to unearth links I may already have but not know about in the film and television industry. My 19y.o. daughter is an actress and is currently going through that whole "can't get a paying job without an Equity card / can't get an Equity card until you've had a paying job" malarkey.
This is where you (hopefully!) come in, LinkedIn-ers. Given that I have a network of over 1200 LinkedIn contacts, and according the Friendship Paradox, you will have more contacts than me (don't ask me why - something to do with the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality?) it is statistically almost inevitable ( yes that's a technical term!) that somebody reading this knows someone (who possibly knows someone) who may be looking for a runner on a film set or may know an actor that needs a PA or maybe even is Kevin Bacon.
You get the idea. Any suggestions as to who we might contact to help get a toe-hold in the industry gratefully received. Perhaps someone gave you a hand when you were setting out on your career and you know what a huge difference it can make?
Thank you

8 年Hi Stephanie - this message popped up on my feed due to Claire Wansbury's comment. My friend Michael Williams may be able to give some advice in this area - I can't promise he'll have a job for your daughter, but will have invaluable industry knowledge... All the best
