Six Cs & One H : Defining 'PURPOSE'

“HAPPINESS is overrated; what gets you through Life, is PURPOSE”
This statement by Amish Tripathi - (the best-selling author of the Shiva trilogy & other novels, & the current Director, Nehru Centre, London) - hit me on my glabella. It set me thinking, and I believe, quintessentially it is an intense 'thought'. More so, in current space & time, wherein Happiness is aggressively being pursued, by all. While we may have known this concept intellectually, but this reinforcement comes as a succour of sorts - just so that we ‘reset’ our minds to negotiate through this so-called 'Agile Era', the times of FOMO, YOLO, Conditional Happiness, et al.
I, therefore, feel, reinforcing (and may be, re-articulating) our Purpose, becomes?imperative & it could just be the ‘nudge’ we all require, instead of getting bogged down by this ‘frenzied chase’ of / for Happiness.
In some of my Coaching sessions, the client and I worked together on something as basic as ‘re-scripting the Purpose’. In the process, we achieved the required breakthroughs & it was an exhilarating 'journey'. The collateral by-product was (being humbled by) experiencing “what got you here, won’t get you there”. (quoting Marshall Goldsmith)
It was not easy though. The toughest part was ‘letting go’
The sheer gravity of past successes, the stereotypes, the peer-pressure, the ever-dynamic landscape (business & personal), limiting learning-styles, insecurity, greed, fear, doubt et al. – they all become the proverbial, 'Achilles heel'.
The sudden BAU (Business As UN-usual) - courtesy the 'disruptions' - stares at us, in askance - "Do you have a Purpose, in the first place? or are You just ‘rolling-on?” and if you do have a Purpose, “Does it need to be reinforced and / or re-articulated?”
The answer to the above questions, could well be the panacea, for the ‘curve-balls’, thrown at you by the changing environment with intimating unpredictability and extrapolations.
So, then, what does it take to define / re-define, your PURPOSE?
Obviously, there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’, solution-architecture. ?But while reflecting on the question, what came to mind, are the Six Cs & One H:
?1. CLARITY

2. CONVICTION
3. COURAGE
4. COMPETENCE
5. CONNECTEDNESS
6. COMPASSION
and
One Big HEART
A good start, to define / re-define / ace your Purpose, would be be to do a brutally honest 'self-diagnosis' (authentic, introspective gap-analysis of self-i.e. - 'As-is Vs?To-be' states) ?on the above framework of ‘Six Cs & One H’, in the backdrop of the Real Goal of Holistic Life- context.
Indeed, ‘HAPPINESS’ IS A DERIVATIVE OF 'PURPOSE '
So, you might want to begin by asking yourself, this : WHAT IS YOUR WHY ?

For me, the first step - CLARITY is most difficult. I believe, that if I have the clarity, I can develop the rest of them more easily.

2 年Pramod, All the Cs you alluded to are interwoven… without compassion where does one get clarity and without clarity how does one get the conviction and the competence. To do a deep dive within oneself, courage and compassion is essential for the As IS and the To Be…
