Good morning,
"In teamwork, silence isn’t golden. It’s deadly." - Mark Sanborn
Here are six conversations to have with your team. My suggestion is to work through the list and have one of these conversations for 6 weeks in a row.
1. The "Vision" conversation. Who are we becoming as team? What is our vision for the future? Team transformation requires planning.
2. The "Brutal Facts" conversation. Where are we falling short of our standard of performance? Calling out sub-par performance is tough but necessary.?#accountability
3. The "Growth" conversation. Where are our areas for growth? When we people receive feedback, they are empowered to grow. This might seem like doubling up from the previous point but it's not. One is about adhering to a standard, the other is about exceeding it.
4. The "Undiscussables" conversation. What are the things that everyone is thinking but no-one is saying? It exists in every team. This is going to be tough but liberating.
5. The "What I need from you" conversation. Allow team members to express what they need from other team members to operate and be at their best.
6. The "Psychological Safety" conversation. Trust me on this, teams need psychological safety. Your team should talk about how you will cultivate it and then commit to creating a space of vulnerability, openness, and transparency.
Communication is the rising tide that lifts all ships in our teams. When we get this right and nourish an environment in which words flow, we succeed.
Here's to building better teams.
