Six Books to Tap Into Your Feminine Power
If I never bought another book again, I would still have enough new reading material that would likely last me through my final days. I hear about a book, it sounds fascinating, and I buy it. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be enough time in my day to get through all of them. Though truthfully, even though I haven’t cracked all of them, I still feel a little wiser just having them nearby.
However, I’ve read each of?the books I’m about to share with you multiple times, as evidenced by the highlights, dog ears, and sticky notes. They have even inspired my own book,?The Goddess Solution. So, if you’re looking to tap into your feminine power, these books will be invaluable on your journey.
Awakening Shakti, Sally Kempton
This was the very first goddess book I ever purchased. And it sat on my bedside table for two years before I ever picked it up. But it was waiting for me! It’s a thorough reference to popular Hindu goddesses, and Kempton does a terrific job explaining how their myths apply to modern-day experiences. She weaves in her personal stories and explains how women can connect with each of the goddesses.
Healthy, Happy, Sexy: Ayurveda Wisdom for Modern Women, Katie Silcox
Shortly after my divorce at forty years old, I decided it was time to live like a goddess. This book was my roadmap. It breaks down Ayurveda (yoga’s sister science for physical healing) into easy-to-understand concepts and provides practical ways for women to apply it. This book really got me thinking about sacred sexuality, my moon cycle, and feeling rooted in my feminine power. I found it so valuable, I went on to study Ayurveda with the author Katie Silcox. She even endorsed? The Goddess Solution:
“What a beautiful book! Whether you are new to Goddess philosophy and practice or a long-time devotee, Lisa’s book is a must-have for every modern spirit-seeker’s bookshelf. I enjoyed the practicality, personal stories and simplicity of this offering.”

A Woman’s Worth, Marianne Williamson
The first book by Marianne Williamson I ever read was?A Return to Love, and it was fantastic. I spent countless hours listing to her lectures on my long commute to work. Then, I came across this book, and it’s like a light bulb went off. It clearly articulated how women have lost their power, and it was a rallying cry that encouraged them to take it back. This book helped me find the words to describe a problem that I could feel in my bones but couldn’t yet explain. There is so much profound wisdom in this book, though my favorite quote is:
“At every moment, a woman makes the choice between the state of the queen and the state of a slave girl.” ~ Marianne Williamson

Goddesses in Everywoman: Powerful Archetypes in Women’s Lives, Jean Shinoda Bolen
Bolen is a Jungian analyst and uses archetypes in her practice. This book looks at the Greek goddesses and presents them as archetypes that many of us can relate to. She shows both the positive attributes and the shadow of each archetype. It’s helpful to understand these patterns of behavior because when we can recognize them in ourselves, we can make a conscious effort to evolve, so we don’t get stuck. It’s also a reminder that we have access to the different archetypes through the collective unconscious, and we can tap into them once we learn how.
“The world of gods and spirits is truly ‘nothing but’ the collective unconscious inside me.” ~ Carl Jung
Women Who Run With the Wolves, Clarissa Pinkola Estés
And, of course, there can’t be a feminine power book list without this tomb of women’s wisdom. Truthfully, I only listened to the very abridged audio version before I wrote? The Goddess Solution, though I did own the paperback version for years prior. Still, I feel the wisdom the author shares is essential for learning to tap into your inner goddess.
Every January, I lead a?Women Who Run With the Wolves?book club with a fantastic group of women. If you would like to read with us,?you can get on the waitlist here.
The Power of Myth, Joseph Cambell and Bill Moyers
All right, so this book isn’t about tapping into your feminine power per se, but it is essential for learning to infuse your life with the divine. I have read? The Power of Myth?multiple times, and I listen to the interview often too. What an inspiring discussion with such great insights on how to approach life feeling guided and connected to a force greater than you.
These are just a few of the many books I treasure and return to again and again. All of them can help us navigate life as dual citizens of both the earthly and spiritual realms. If you’ve read any of them (or after you do), please let me know what you think in the comments below.
