SIUT and Ukhta State Technical University: Strengthening Scientific Cooperation and Experience Exchange

Samarkand International University of Technology continues to actively develop international partnerships aimed at enhancing educational and research opportunities for students and faculty. As part of the annual conference, “Challenges in Geology, Development and Operation of Fields, Transport, and Processing of Hard-to-Recover Heavy Oil Reserves” held at Ukhta State Technical University (USTU), SIUT’s Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, Doctor of Technical Sciences Tulkun Irgashevich Samukov, visited USTU to participate in this event and meet with colleagues. Traditionally, the conference is dedicated to the memory of a prominent state figure, the first Head of the Komi Republic, Professor Yuri Alexeyevich Spiridonov (1938–2010). During the conference’s plenary session, Dr. T.I. Samukov delivered a presentation on “Development of Heavy Oil Reserves in the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
It should be noted that last year, on October 11, 2023, SIUT and USTU signed a MoU, confirming their commitment to deepening collaboration in education and research. This step marked an important milestone toward academic and cultural exchange development and facilitated information-sharing cooperation between the universities.
Prior to the conference, SIUT’s Vice-Rector had a meeting with USTU’s Rector, Prof. Ruslan Aginey, which was also attended by USTU’s Vice-Rector for Research – Dmitry Boreyko and the Dean of the Oil and Gas Faculty, Natalia Demchenko. The meeting focused on the joint activity plan for 2025, which includes faculty exchanges, lectures in Russian and English, a student mobility program, and internship opportunities in geology and oil and gas disciplines. Professor R. Aginey expressed USTU’s commitment to long-term and fruitful cooperation with SIUT.
Following the conference in Ukhta, Dr. Samukov plans to publish a research article in Russian “Инженер-нефтяник” (Petroleum Engineer) scientific journal, highlighting the key achievements and prospects in the oil and gas industry. The article will also be included in the conference proceedings indexed in the RSCI (Russian Science Citation Index) system.

During his visit, Dr. Samukov also held a meeting with students from Uzbekistan studying at USTU with the support of SANEG Company. In this meeting, he presented an overview of Uzbekistan’s oil and gas industry development, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive professional approach to education and career growth.
“My visit to Ukhta State Technical University was highly productive, – remarked Dr. Samukov, – “I was pleased to meet the faculty and students, and I was especially impressed by the well-equipped laboratories and training grounds, which are very close to real working conditions. Visiting the Yarega field, I witnessed unique extraction technologies and saw the high level of training for future specialists being established here at USTU”.
Both parties expressed their commitment to developing further cooperation and expanding partnerships aimed at advancing educational programs and joint research initiatives. It is expected that the combined efforts of SIUT and USTU will provide students and faculty on both sides with unique opportunities for professional and academic growth, deepening their knowledge and fostering the exchange of cutting-edge technologies in geology and the oil and gas industry.
