SITTING STILL IS DANGEROUS – GRAB THE HELP OTHERS AND LEARN TO?INNOVATE AND SCALE

Sitting still, for any community or institution, equals death- in an era of rapid changes. Being a river that does not flow nor receives fresh inflows will no doubt get you to not only stink but become abandoned and extinct. That is only natural.??

My children, just like most young people today, were raised under an atmosphere of measured liberty, autonomy, and balanced commands but that was not how I was raised. I was raised under intense order and maximum command by a generation of war veterans and so it was no big deal fitting into the work environment of centralized control and hierarchy.?Today if you operate such a highly structured, command, and illiberal business model, you would most likely not innovate or scale as a developing community or startup. And you are an established business, I am beginning to write your dirge, except you pivot.

A couple of weeks ago, I hosted about 10 young teenagers on a two weeks internship at OgaDonate. Our firm,, OgaDonate is formalizing the KINDNESS economy; allowing for ordinary people and small businesses to receive economic values for their idle skills, items, service, and products while helping others in need. Among other things, each intern had to find a challenge that interest them, research and gather global and national data and develop a possible solution. Whatever the solution imagined, they were to design a workable business model, value proposition, and an MVP.

These guys were simply marvelous. Then intuitively I challenge them to think and develop scripts for relevant games that could engage their customers. I was simply stunned. Those guys are genius and know better than I could imagine and sometimes way smarter.

The internship is over now and my team is dissecting their thoughts and looking for lessons that we can adapt into our products and projects. Though I didn’t take a penny for this mentorship, but what I got from these lads far outweigh what I gave them. Well, One thing that was available for these kids was a doze of measured liberty of choice, autonomy and fun.

We were careful to dictate to them but provide measured guidance and mentoring. And that worked so well that we are re-thinking towards building a firm that hands over autonomy to its young employees while we reduce command to allow for innovation, responsiveness, and scaling.

My point is that today’s young people are really smart. The future that you seek to navigate ad influence is there already; so why ignore their inputs? Experience is crucial to an institution; success but been agile and open to new thoughts is critical.?But you must also be prepared to accommodate a new work culture and flexibility. Clearly, these duds do better in environments where they have responsible autonomy as opposed to overwhelming command. And that is some work for an old horse like me, I must confess.

In this era of rapid cultural shift, digital transformation, and persistent disruptions, organizations must adapt their decision-making processes, and work culture to remain nimble and responsive.?Change is the only constant—and the rate of change is itself galloping in today’s world.?So, for any community, institution or company, sitting still equals death. As a result, you either disrupt yourself—or someone else will.

The journey to creating abundance has taught me that your most impactful lessons might come from overlooked sources and that, if truly you want to be great or remain so, you are safer assuming you know little. Open up. field control, democratize and decentralize your authority.?#youth?#genz?#tech?#technology?#economy?#internship?#kindness?#donate?#nonprofit?#community?#foundation?#startup?#giving?#help?#hope?#innovation```
