Sitting in Silence

"Sitting in silence" is a monastic practice that invites you into a deep state of stillness...

As a? practice, it emphasises presence, calm, and moment-to-moment awareness.

By merely sitting without engaging in any specific task or distraction, you find that you begin to cultavate a space where you can observe your thoughts, emotions, and sensations without judgment. The practice encourages letting go of the constant drive 'to do', 'achieve', or 'solve', which dominates much of modern life.

In this silent sitting, there is an opportunity to experience the subtleties of being—to reconnect with, and deeply appreciate, moment-to-moment awareness, and to foster a sense of inner calm and serenity.

In a society that emphasises productivity, achievement, and action, "sitting in silence" can feel radically countercultural and 'other', if not even weird, and a waste of time. The practice of "non-doing" challenges the often unconscious belief that self-worth is tied to output. Instead, sitting in silence teaches the value of simply being, of resting in one's own presence without any need to prove, perform, or act.

This kind of meditation shifts the focus from external validation to inner peace, and offers you a taste of transformation from the incessant noise of modern life.

You begin to realisse that you do in fact have 'time'. It just, at times, appears to get lost in the focus on 'doing'.
