Sitecore 10.3 - Highlights of updates and observations.

Sitecore recently released the latest version 10.3, in this article I will share what I learned from this version and if you are using 10. x, whether you should be looking at upgrading to 10.3 or not.

First of all, here are the key links for this release, which has an in-depth review, release notes, which includes, key highlights, a list of new features vs known issue, and the most important part is what has been depreciated.

  1. Release Details of 10.3
  2. Release Notes - 10.3
  3. What's New -10.3

My most current projects are based on Sitecore Headless (Next.js) so what is new in this field or is it really beneficial to make the upgrade quick.

There are two major fixes, if you got the similar error, you should consider upgrading your system.

  1. 529047 - The Edge Preview and Edge delivery endpoints return an inconsistent order of child items.
  2. 534137 - Publishing fails and throws an?ArgumentNullException?error due to?TemplateFieldDeliveryEntityGenerator.

Sitecore has mentioned below three new features for the headless services.

With that launch of Headless Services 21.0 Sitecore has added a new starter framework to accelerate the creation of new projects, and support for Next.js 12.3.x and React 18.

I'm very excited to see a new The JSS NextImage component, If performance is the key for your website, you shoudl definetly consider using this component as it can give add below aditional benefits.

  • Serves correctly sized images for each device, with modern image formats.
  • Improves the?visual stability?of the page.
  • Improves page-loading time with lazy loading and visually attractive placeholders.
  • Resizes images on demand, whether they are stored locally or remotely.

Apart from that, most of the website are looking for the stable and advance search features, with these release, I can see a lot of issue have been fixes, here is the list of items.

Looks like they are keeping up with what the browser makers are recommending. Others already released their bits for this earlier but good to see Sitecore did too. 2023 has a lot more coming from all the platform makers. It’s going to be great!

If nothing changed in the Hotfix development process, mostlikely, you would be able to get a cumulative Hotfix for Search issues from the support. Looking into the release notes, 10.3 is maintenance realize that combines all the hotfixes requested by different customers. You can potentially get a hotfix for the version you are running on If you are not affected by the issues fixed in 10.3, the upgrade would probably cost more than the benefits of the release. I would suggest investing more in defining your future content/experience strategy -> considering moving to Sitecore SaaS or decomposing if you are looking for integrations and capabilities of other vendors.
