Sisk monthly: February ‘25 Review
With 2025 well underway, we look at some of the key stories from last month from across our business.
Achieving CDP A score for 2024
We were proud to announce in early February that we have received an ‘A’ score for CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) 2024.
CDP is a global, non-profit organisation which runs the world’s leading environmental disclosure platform which drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, protect forests and safeguard water resources.
This result is an improvement from 2023, when we received an A-. We achieved a B result, an improvement from a B- in 2020 & 2019. To achieve an A rating in 2024 demonstrates the journey we have been on as a business and an important step as we strive to become a Carbon Neutral company by 2030, as outlined in our 2030 Sustainability Roadmap.
Paul Brown, our CEO, said: “We are proud to have earned an A rating for CDP Climate for 2024 - the highest possible score - further strengthening our commitment to climate action. This achievement marks an important milestone in Sisk’s 2030 Sustainability Roadmap – Building today, Caring for tomorrow – and reflects the dedication of our people and supply chain to driving meaningful environmental progress. As we continue this journey, we remain focused on accelerating climate solutions and leading the way toward a more sustainable construction industry.”
Feature: Celebrating our apprentices
February saw the annual National Apprenticeship Week in the UK. Throughout the week, events were held across the country to celebrate the impact that our apprentices have on our business, and to encourage more to join the construction industry.
This year, our Early Careers team organised the first Sisk Apprentice Gala Awards, which took place in Birmingham. After a series of workshops during the day, the Gala event was an opportunity to gather and celebrate our UK apprentices, alongside their peers and mentors. There were six awards handed out on the night and special recognition given to all our apprentice ambassadors.
On site in Manchester later in the week, our UK apprentices attended the 'Sisk x CIOB: Leaders of the Future' event, after a site tour in the morning. Speakers included the likes of Steve Conopo, Head of Apprenticeships at CIOB, and our own Professor Perry Shard. This event gave valuable insights into the apprenticeship journey, the benefits of chartership, and was a useful networking opportunity for all attendees.
Another event during the week was the Leeds Apprentice Fair, where Ian Bingham, Anthony Gee, Jack Taylor and Kelly Sowden attended and spoke to potential apprentices about applying for apprenticeships within Sisk and the careers that are offered in construction. It’s the fifth year we’ve attended the event – run by Leeds City Council – and the discussions are always positive ones.
We have apprentices across our sites, including Kashif Hussain on our Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Cancer Centre project. If you didn’t see the original post, you can read his apprenticeship journey here.
Thanks to all those involved in National Apprenticeship Week this year.
Vantage Data Centres project team celebrates win
Congratulations to our Vantage Data Centers DUB1 Campus project team who were winners at The National Property Awards.
The team won ‘Best ESG/Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award’ for its Zero Plastic to Landfill initiative.
In August 2024, we became the first construction company in Ireland and UK to achieve a Zero Waste to Landfill certification.
This outstanding joint initiative was made possible by our Vantage project team, our sustainability and procurement teams, Waste Matters, Thorntons Recycling and Kirby Group Engineering.
Moderna Milestone
We recently celebrated a major milestone event at Moderna Innovation and Technology Centre (MITC) in Oxfordshire handing over some key features of its state of-the-art research, development and manufacturing facility.
Donal McCarthy, our COO for Data, Life Sciences & Technology, said: “At Sisk, we are incredibly proud to have delivered this major milestone. Our project team and supply chain partners must be applauded for their innovative approaches used to deliver this state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. It is a real testament of client and contractor collaboration.
"By establishing an on-site equipment testing facility, our team was able to provide a 17-week time saving against the construction programme to enable the client to speed up production and distribution of critical vaccines. We look forward to increasing our footprint across the UK Life Sciences sector with a healthy pipeline of projects this year and into 2026.”
Transition Year Programme
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming five TY students for a week-long placement at our HQ in Dublin. The programme aimed to showcase the diverse career opportunities available within the sector. Facilitated by our Integrated Solutions team, the students engaged in a range of collaborative tasks. They also had the opportunity to learn from guest speakers across the business, who delivered insightful presentations and workshops on the day-to-day workings of Sisk.
The feedback from both students and parents has been overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to expanding these opportunities with further placements in 2026.

5 天前Thank you John Sisk for sharing, the monthly review is a really interesting read. Obviously working in the world of Lean I'm always keen to see positive waste reduction (Moderna) In 2023 it was reported: - The construction industry generated 62% of the UK's waste - 32% of all waste sent to landfill in the UK comes from construction - The?construction, demolition, & excavation (CD&E) sector?is the largest source of waste generation in the United Kingdom. I feel that John Sisk have an ideal opportunity to share what you are doing about all forms of "waste" reduction. I worked with a team, developed a project Performance Improvement Team (PIT) & generated £10.1m worth of validated savings (2.8% Of TCV) is this something John Sisk Do ?
