To sir/madam with respect

I wonder why today is the only day that is celebrated as 'Teacher's day'. We, in fact, keep meeting people from all walks of life, who, irrespective of who they are, tend to teach us something. Hence, in that sense, learning is a continuous process.

All of us have been, at various points in our life, influenced by some wonderful human beings who with their knowledge, dedication, compassion and self less attitude, have strived only to give us as much as they possibly could.

We must remain indebted to all those individuals who have shaped our lives and remember them everyday.

Contexts change with time and one must acknowledge those to be in sync with the realities of life. Teaching too has changed since we were school going children. Technology/ other external influences have had significant bearing on the way teachers teach today and students learn what is taught.

Attention spans are shrinking by the day and it is increasingly challenging for a teacher to effectively drive a point home within the available constraints of lack of enough time, attention & interest.

Innovative methods are the order of the day but nothing really can even substitute the sheer honesty with which some teachers share knowledge /experience and expect nothing but the best from their students. They dedicate their lives to improve those of the less privileged .

They are, unfortunately, far & few. The world needs more & more of these special ones.
