SIRE 2.0: The Vetting Process differently...

Four months after the launching of SIRE 2.0 / Phase 3 (which, according to a post by OCIMF last April, “…is progressing well”), we keep focusing on the differences between the new scheme and VIQ7, and their implications on the vetting process.

Notwithstanding the importance of the other revised requirements (indicatively, six points are briefly stated below), one might argue that “Performance Influencing Factors” (PIF) are expected to be the (new) key-element in the vetting process.

Having said that, there’s an obvious association between the PIF mentioned in SIRE 2.0 documentation and those factors that, according to Health and Safety Executive, “…make errors more or less likely…”??????????????????????????????????????????????????????? (Source: https://www.hse.gov.uk/humanfactors/topics/humanfail.htm)

While the list is not exhaustive, HSE has focused on a total of 26 factors, which are classified into three categories: Job (11), Person (6) and Organisation (9).(Source: https://www.hse.gov.uk/humanfactors/assets/docs/pifs.pdf)

As all involved and concerned try to become adequately prepared for the new inspection regime, it is critical to adopt a holistic approach and sincere understanding of PIF, and their impact on the outcome of the vetting process.

After all, we have to keep in mind that “…integrating human factors into management systems is in line with OCIMF’s commitment to consider human factors in everything we do”.
