PTFE is short for polytetrafluoroethylene. Also known under the brand name Teflon?.
The process
The basic steps of the processing method of suspension polymerization PTFE include preforming, sintering and cooling. Preforming is the pressing of PTFE resin in powder form into a pre-processed product with a specific shape.
Sintering is the heating up of the pre-processed product to the melting point of the resin, so that the resin particles have a dense and homogeneous structure.
Cooling is cooling down at a certain rate to obtain PTFE material of a certain shape.
After ejection from the mold, the products are sintered in an oven at approximately 370°C. In sintering, the material is heated to its melting point and slowly cooled. This allows chemical bonding between the individual PTFE particles, resulting in a rigid polymerized shape.
Sintering must be done in an oven to insure good airflow and homogeneous temperature distribution.
The solution
The sintering requires a very precise thermal process, which is extremely suitable for our Weiss-V?tsch ovens, more specifically the HeatEvent-series.
This particular HeatEvent oven can be equipped according to customer specifications and includes all possibilities a sintering process requires, such as:
