Happy Summer, First name / my friend!
?
Today's newsletter is a little life hack rooted in communications ?
that might just make a big difference?
in how you see yourself and your accomplishments –
and get you closer to what you really want.
?
I'm a communications person at heart (and by training)
which is why when I work with a client,?
I really listen carefully for the specific words they use.
?
Words have power,?
and finding the ones that fit you
can make everything feel a bit easier.
?
Recently, I had a conversation with a client – let's call her Margo.
?
Margo and I had been talking about self-advocacy
and her “need to get better at it” several times at this point,
and she was still very, very uncomfortable with the idea.
Not because she had nothing to talk about – tons of things, actually –
or because she didn't know what she wanted – she did –
but because it felt like bragging to her.
?
And as every good girl know, bragging is bad.
I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, right?
?
A few minutes later Margo mentioned?
an award-winning project she had led for her company,?
and she truly lit up when she talked about it.
What she said specifically was,?
“it was so great to have a chance and showcase this project!"
?
That's when my keyword detector went off,
and I suggested the following:
“How about you stop thinking about bragging when you?
talk about your strengths, accomplishments, talents,?
all these things that we've been talking about –
and focus on SHOWCASING YOURSELF instead,
领英推荐
just like a very successful, award-winning project."
?
Showcase obviously was a word Margo liked and considered professional.?
Obviously, it IS a professional word!
?
So we tried it, and guess what??
It worked wonders for Margo!?
Suddenly, the daunting task of self-advocacy became a lot more doable –
and even more importantly, less icky.
?
Maybe this could work for you too!
?
Think about showcasing your achievements
and all the amazing work you do?
like you would an amazing project –
a project that may win an award if you present it well,
just like you may win your next dream role
(or whatever else you want for yourself).
??
I'd love for you to try it out and let me know how it goes.?
Simply comment or send me a message.
?
Cheers to showcasing our best selves!
?
Love, Micha
P.S.
