In the modern, sophisticated coffee scene, where specialty cafes embrace the diversity of coffee beans and consumers enjoy learning more about their coffee, Single Origin coffees have become a familiar sight.?
So, what exactly does “Single Origin” mean??
As the name implies, Single Origin beans refer to beans from a specific geographical location. There is no official governance over this phrase, hence Single Origin can refer to the country of origin or go one step further to designate the actual coffee plantation.
Much like for the wine industry, where terroir — the unique soil and climate of a specific region — plays a role in the final taste of the product, different coffee origins produce beans — and coffee — with distinctive tastes. Many factors influence flavour, whether it’s the coffee variety, the environmental conditions of the coffee farm, or the processing steps that take place further down the value chain. With the transparent backdrop of the coffee bean’s exotic farm-to-cup story, Single Origin coffees set the stage for a genuine transportive coffee experience, allowing coffee aficionados to taste the distinct differences in the coffee beans’ terroir.
This concept has also trickled down to the creation of ready-to-drink and instant coffees. In these product categories, it was generally common to use coffee blends — a mixture of different coffee beans, often containing the more affordable Robusta coffee — to create a simple and balanced taste profile which caters to generic, mass market consumption.
Now, however, niche Single Origin concepts are booming in convenient coffee formats. Why? Younger, more discerning consumers are adventurous and knowledgeable about their coffee. Their higher purchasing power puts them in a position to seek different, premium experiences. For these consumer groups, a coffee blend might come across as too mundane. Exotic Single Origin coffees spark consumers’ curiosity and quench their thirst for new adventures and tastes. They allow consumers a few moments of escapism and indulgence, especially important in a post-pandemic society and work-from-home routines.
Although carefree café-hopping days have yet to fully return, MANE can offer your consumers a worldwide tasting journey with selected coffee origins. Backed by advanced research analytics, MANE carefully reconstructs distinct flavour characteristics for an authentic coffee experience.?
Available in selected origins:
Ethiopia: Ethiopia, with its various favorable growing conditions, is widely regarded as the birthplace of coffee. Most of the beans are grown at high altitudes in the country’s southern mountains, contributing to a higher acidity[1]. Ethiopian coffees are among the most complex and diverse, ranging in flavour from fruity (berry, peach) to floral depending on the exact area of cultivation.
Brazil: Brazil experiences microclimates with well-defined seasons, including rainy summers and cool, dry winters. This enables the production of high-quality Arabica coffee beans[2] which are typically full/heavy body with nutty, chocolate and woody flavour notes.

Colombia: Most of its coffee is grown in the highlands of the Sierra Nevada and Andes mountainous region at altitudes of 900 to 2,000 metres above sea level (MASL) or higher. Together, these areas form a vast region with many microclimates. Typically, its coffee bean profile is slightly fruity and nutty with notes of cherry and sweet almond.
Guatemala: Coffee in Guatemala is grown at an altitude of over 1,500 MASL, which contributes to its excellent and distinctive flavour. The beans grown there have mild body and milk chocolate and citrus notes.
Offer your consumers the extraordinary transportive experience of high-quality coffee in the comfort of their own homes as they savour distinct flavour profiles hailing from different regions with ease and convenience, even in the midst of a pandemic.
