The single most important factor when seeking a new career in media.
#Journalists #Storytellers #Truthseekers #ContentProducers ... The poll is officially closed, and the results are in!
A few weeks ago, I initiated a poll and asked a straightforward query, "What is the single most important factor when seeking a new career in media?"
After garnering precisely 455 votes across my extensive media network, encompassing esteemed professionals such as News Producers, Award-Winning Investigative Journalists, News Directors, Writers, On-Air Talent, Creative Directors, and Marketing Directors, a resounding consensus emerged.
In a somewhat unexpected yet enlightening revelation, the paramount concern that resonates with all of you has come to light.
Allow me to present the original post for your perusal.
Here are the final results;
#1. Work/Life Balance
#2. More Money!
#3. Workplace Culture
Lastly,
#4. Career Growth
As I wrap up this conversation, let's delve into some captivating thoughts that were expressed in the comments section.
Option five: actually landing a job. ~ Jessica Brodkin Webb
Used to be money and growth, but now it's an ideal workplace. At some point, you start to value your workplace and culture more than anything else. Finding money is often easier than finding a good fit. ~ Christopher Pelczynski
Work/life balance and more money go hand in hand. You can’t particularly have much of a life if all you can do is afford to sit at home and not go to work. ~ Keith Burrell
I definitely believe all of these are important, as well as how they work in conjunction with one another -- career growth equals a pay raise, a pay raise allows a healthier work/life balance, and a healthier work/life balance allows for a more nutritious and prosperous workplace culture because everyone is more content! ~ Isabella Ensign
To finally be in a position to pursue my passion for storytelling exemplifies my main factor. This is a business that you have to have a love for, and I'm ready to embark on this journey. ~ Lentheus Chaney
I'm always eager to hear from you further on this topic, and your perspective is invaluable no matter where you are in your career.

1 年It’s good to know what TV news employees want, and I'm glad you asked.?It’s even better to know what’s being done to ensure TV news companies make progress on those qualities.?Judging by the flow of people leaving the TV news business??That progress isn’t good. ? Salaries in TV news are pitiful, have always been pitiful, and need to be competitive.?Not just competitive in TV news, but competitive across the board, with other industries that are willing to pay more money for the skills a journalist has.?You can’t have work/life balance if your TV news paycheck is so small, you have to work a second job in order to pay your rent, your bills, your student loans, etc. To paraphrase my Dad, we can talk about this ’til the cows come home.?Let’s cut to the chase.?What’s being done to effectively address the concerns your survey respondents took the time to raise?
