Single Integrated Edge Plan – free of charge edge computing strategy

Single Integrated Edge Plan is a development sprint by Intel resulting in a pan-organizational edge computing strategy - free of charge against a reference permission.

Analysts such as Gartner recommend creation of an edge computing strategy. This technology is seen as an important enabler for digital business.

Why do you need one? Challenge with new technologies is that they are abstract in nature. They need to be explained, with a narrative. If there isn’t an organizational narrative, then individuals make their own. That may lead in a sprawl, unsafe risk-taking and often to not seizing the opportunity to the max, or on time. Strategy consists of:

  • a narrative (what is edge computing for you)
  • an action plan (what are you going to do about it, aka roadmap or compass), and
  • a governance model (once you have it, how do you manage it)

High-quality publication with distinct visuals and a video, that's what contemporary good looks like for internal comms on strategies - both are included. How about some cartoons?

Target audience

This revised (2nd Gen) version of Single Integrated Edge Plan is meant for:

  • local government (municipalities, regions)
  • transportation (public, private and related services)
  • energy sector (small and midsized utility companies, energy retailers)

Scope

We wrap around the phenomena instead of just trying to solve edge computing partially based on some comfort zone. In Swedish, for edge computing vi g?r allt som beh?vs.

There is an interlock between the compute and networking aspects of edge computing, so they are both included as the name of the sprint so implies. Single Integrated Edge Plan includes a networking strategy to be created inclusive of cloud-specific, WAN, WLAN/Wifi and wireless technologies.

A further explanation of how the strategy is created is illustrated below. In essence we break edge computing into nine elements, solve them and in the deliverables, synchronize the activities, use cases and controls.

The process, deliverables an options

Deliverables come to you on your logos and livery, using predefined templates. Deliverables can be later internally approved and developed by the customer and its other ICT providers. Since it is commonplace to have service providers manage elements covered in this plan, most documents are written in the form of a requirements specification.

Options are also pro bono, but they require more effort from the customer organization

For use cases the main deliverable is called Big Map of Use Cases. It is a MS Excel sheet which is your formal pan-organizational inventory of new tech use cases. The same template we use for AI and data and it embeds a simple monetary evaluation of the use cases giving you a school grade on each of them.

Costs review option is a document where to provide to client a full inventory of what the networking costs are. We would look at it heuristically. For example, if there is a site connected to internet, there’s a firewall cluster which can be seen associated with the network costs. If the site is migrated to public cloud, the firewall cluster networking cost could disappear as well.

Video Pack, ICT Sustainability Pack and Metaverse Pack to add depth towards those topics.

To add use case centricity and depth, you can add a Pack into the delivery. A Pack provides architecture (or "themes" definition in the case of ICT sustainability), governance model and a tailored training on the Pack's subject. The Packs are common to other pro bono sprints.

Readiness, references and other pro bono sprints

Single Integrated Edge Plan is part of our Nordic pro bono catalogue. Catalogue includes other collaborative strategy & planning sprints for cloud, data, AI, HPC and ICT sustainability. Whole ICT strategy recreation is also offered for certain verticals. xSP and partners have presales vehicle and managed services servitization content there as well. We have several reference customers for these sprints.
