Single Image to 3D HD in 15 Years
"The origin of SM57(Shure Microphone) may be traced to 1937, when Shure engineer Benjamin Bauer developed the first single-element directional microphone, the Unidyne,?which had a cardioid pickup pattern. In 1959, another Shure engineer,?Ernie Seeler, advanced the art of microphone design significantly with the Unidyne III.?Seeler torture-tested the Unidyne III during three years of research and development and thereby,?produced the SM series of rugged and reliable Shure microphone capsules."(Wikipedia)
The reason that this is significant is that while some?AV and related technologies are subject to constant change that can make your head spin,?other things remain exactly the same for long periods of time.
This is not the case with video projection and display.
In January 1988 we projected ten color images which were outputted from an IBM PS2 Model 25?on a 600 lumen projector for a meeting of IBM executives in Atlanta. At the time projecting ten digital photos was a big deal?and was a shock even for IBM executives.?The Model 25 did not have a display output so the computer needed to be opened and?its internal display cable needed to be removed and replaced with?a matching cable that also had an additional ribbon cable which went to a?computer interface which was ironically named a Covid. It was a new technology.?The Covid company sent us their first adapter cable manufactured for this purpose, as in #1, and asked us to consult with them about our results.
We used a 600 lumen projector because it was one of the only commercially available?projectors that could handle the resolution. It was a 3-gun CRT projector.?All three colors needed to be aligned using a grid, which was a long and tedious process.
The presenter announced:
"And now digital photos can be seen right on this screen."

He pointed to the screen of the computer and a digital image of a woman wearing a hat appeared on its small screen and the audience gasped and then he pointed to the projection screen,
"And this image can now appear on that screen".?
The picture appeared on the projection screen and the audience rose as one?and began a standing ovation.
Fast Forward(as they say) to December 2002, 15 years later.?We projected a segment of James Cameron's "Expedition Bismarck" in 3D HD?on a 20' silver screen using two 12,000 lumen DLP projectors (one vertical and one horizontal) for The Discovery Channel at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC.
This also received a standing ovation.?
As I was packing up, someone came up to me?and when I looked up it was James Cameron.
"It looked good." he said.
"Thank you." I said.

2 年Great consensus. Another moment, like landing on the moon and compact disks, that rocked our worlds.
An eye for a successful production...
