a single clap

In two weeks I was supposed to pick up my mom, in Northwest Ohio, and drive to Knoxville. We'd spend two nights at the Knoxville Marriott, where I'd be speaking, and make our way back for my oldest son's graduation on May 1st. He's graduating with his Masters in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. It's something he's been working on for the past seven years. My daughter is the nearing the completion of her Bachelor's in Education from Bowling Green. Our youngest son was set to study-abroad in France for the month of June.

We all had momentous events in the future.

And then the world came to a grinding halt.

This reminds me of the theme of my keynote speech. "Life is going to turn out differently than you planned, so don't be afraid to reimagine your life." My trip to Knoxville was cancelled, so I filmed my speech in my living room. When I was done, I heard my wife clapping from the other room. It would be the only clapping heard. Who would have imagined?

We are all forced to reimagine our lives. Some handle this better than others. How are you doing?

Me? I'm healthy. My family (including mom) is healthy. I've even recently become a great-uncle for the 400th time. (that may be an exaggeration)

I get to be here and do what I was called to do. I'm happy that I get to do it.

You're still here and that's amazing. Let's be grateful for that. Let's focus on that for a little while. Not what's been taken from our future, but what's been given to us. The extra time that we used to crave, but now we don't really want.

There are times in our lives where we have a clear idea of how things are going to go. When they don't go that way, it's called an experience.

Don't miss it. This is the experience.

Send me an email at [email protected] and we can set up a time to chat 1 on 1 and I'll include a PDF download of my book "Sometimes it does take a Brain Surgeon". Or, if you prefer to just sign up and receive my latest content click here.
