The Single Biggest Mistake I've seen women in business make recently

Wow - the end of October already, I can't believe it

And yet I can... this year, like every one to come, will go faster and faster (as a year becomes a smaller proportion of the life you've lived... 20% of your life as a 5-year-old, but 4% of your life as a 25-year-old) - and so we'll be singing Auld Lan Syne again before we know it.

And yet, I've had several conversations with women over the last few days with a running theme that concerns me - and so in today's #SaturdayServing, I'm shedding light on this worrying trend and giving some insights into what we can do instead...

The Mistaken Fast Forward Mentality

I keep speaking to amazing women who are speaking to me about the new year... as if the old year's done. They've already checked out and fast-forwarded to the end of the year when it comes to supporting or improving their businesses

Tomorrow marks the start of the last 60 days of the year... and yet so many women are signing off like the year is done...

Or treating Christmas like it's a 60-day celebration rather than a single day around which to plan some incredibly awesome and well-deserved downtime.

No Good Reasons

But this 'can't do it this side of the year' has been repeated to me several times in several different contexts over the last few days, and I feel it's a grave mistake for a number of powerful reasons:

  1. It literally removes 17% of your year - which loses you valuable momentum and opportunity for some incredible opportunities
  2. It reduces your ability to end the year strong, by seeing you 'slow down' to the end, instead of running through it (imagine 100m runners slowing down to the finish line?)
  3. It makes a strong start in the new year much more effort (and therefore loses you time, energy and momentum on the other side of your breaks too) - which makes the time to actually be in full throttle within your year even shorter stills...

Now don't read what I haven't written...

Taking a break for the festive period is such an incredible and important thing to do - downtime is always a good thing and it's important to take that time to fully relax

But it's also really important that you treat it as a time of nourishment and not one of setback... Like when you lose weight all week long, only to put it all back on with your weekend cheat day.

And a 60-day wind-down period gets you out of practice of the routine of making the best strategic decisions for your business when they're needed for an extended time.

The Time is Now

The fact is that there's never been a better time to put things in place for your business and to set you up for the new year...

If you need help in your business - NOW is the time to put it in... to decide what you need, and to know what you'll be doing in January... so many women wait to until the new year to get a plan in place...

And planning January for January is already too late.

Use the time we have left to finish the year strong... use the rest to set up next year to be even better...No one ever regretted NOT slowing down before Christmas, but many women find that January rev up tough to manage.

So amazing ladies - don't consign 2021 to the history books already - squeeze every last drop available in it, and assure yourself of an amazing end, for you and your business.

If you're interested in getting some powerful game-changing support in place for your business, and actually seeing results BEFORE the year-end... DM me a 'Yes please' and let's talk - we're here all year!! No early 'checkout's over here!

I have an eye in both camps! Totally focussed on finishing 2021 strong. I have an eye on starting to plan for 2022. No checking out of 2021 for me, there is still much yet to come!! ????????????????????????

Well said. In my job every second counts with constant deadlines e.g. EHCP assessment reports. It's often a case of wishing there was more time at this point in the year. Ultimately it is important to plan ahead while mindfully making the most of the present.

Well said, Yinka! Sprint through the end of the year; don't ease up and wait for 2022 to come around (there will only be other excuses lurking in January, otherwise!)
