The single best tip I have for public speaking

The single best tip I have for public speaking

I do a lot of public speaking. Over the last few years, I've done over 100 public presentations (many at small local meetups, but a handful of big international conferences too). As a naturally shy introvert, it doesn't come easily to me at all.

There are a ton of guides for public speaking online, and I won't repeat them. I have just one technique that has worked wonders for me:

  1. Record yourself doing your presentation.
  2. Run it through a speech to text program (I use MacWhisper, there are many others).
  3. Then repeat your presentation until the transcribed version is clear, fluent, and direct.

This is easy. All it costs is time. (MacWhisper is free!) You don't have to bother your friends, or spend hours awkwardly replaying a recording of your presentation. And in no time at all, you'll sound like a practiced, world-class expert public speaker.

I do this exact thing! I add an extra step and run it though GPT to improve flow and readability.
