Singapore Government Allocates S$3.3 Billion for Infocomm Technology Investments in 2023 Tigernix - Australia

The Singaporean government has stated that it will spend about S$3.3 billion on information and communications technology (ICT) in 2023. Over 100,000 personal computers and printers used in the public sector will be replaced with new ones using a sizable amount of this budget—roughly $400 million—which will be devoted to this purpose. These appliances must adhere to strict environmental and energy regulations and are typically updated every three years.

The government has issued three significant bulk tenders to implement its ICT spending agenda. The first procurement, with a price tag of S$600 million, aims to offer government agencies platforms that facilitate the creation of software applications and subscription-based software for customer relationship management and case management. To support government agencies, the second tender, valued at S$850 million, focuses on cloud and on-site hosting services. By combining demand and generating cost savings through these tenders, the government makes it simpler for businesses to participate.

The government anticipates cutting its ICT investment in 2023 compared to earlier years by utilising bulk tenders. The predicted spending for 2023 is S$3.3 billion, less than the S$3.8 billion spent in 2021 and 2022. Kok Ping Soon, CEO of GovTech, stressed the advantages of demand aggregation, which results in savings and saves time and effort for agencies while establishing longer-term vendor relationships.

GovTech is directly attempting to lessen the carbon footprint of government data centres through environmental initiatives. Spending on ICT will primarily create applications that deliver better human-centric digital services. Examples include streamlining grant applications for businesses and enhancing the home-based learning experience for kids. Residents can anticipate quick delivery of customised, geolocation-specific services to meet their needs.
