Singapore Airlines to Fly to Sapporo, Shimojishima Business Jet Terminal Opens & More

Over the last week, among other things, Singapore Airlines announced it will add a seasonal service to Sapporo in the 2024 winter schedule.

Routes

Singapore Airlines plans to launch Singapore - Sapporo flights on December 1, 2024. The flights will operate until the end of January 2025.

JAL Cargo plans to start Tokyo Narita - Tianjin route on April 20, 2024. The route will be operated five times a week using the airline’s 767-300ER freighters.

JAL recently restarted dedicated freighter service for the first time in 13 years.


Airports

Shimojishima Airport plans to open its new business jet terminal on April 21, 2024. The terminal is the second part of Mitsubishi Estate’s project to revitalize the airport and follows its new passenger terminal opening in 2019.


Operations

ZIPAIR plans to cancel 10 flights in May 2024 due to aircraft maintenance. Those who already booked their flights will be offered alternatives or refunds.

JCAB classified ANA’s April 7, 2024, GPWS incident as serious . The aircraft operating the airline’s flight from Haneda to Yonago landed safely on its third attempt.

MLIT approved ANA-Singapore Airlines joint venture on April 19, 2024. The joint venture is still waiting for approval from the Singaporean watchdog and needs to apply for approvals from other countries where it plans to operate.

Did You Know That…

Nagoya Chubu is one of the few airports in the world where Boeing 747-400LCFs (known as Dreamlifters) can be seen regularly. They are used to transport components made in the area to Boeing’s factory.
