The Simulation Pulse

The editorial team at “The Simulation Pulse” is very happy to bring to you the opening edition of our Newsletter. Given the fact that this is a new initiative, we were expecting a slow start but with the largest ever acquisition that happened in engineering software space, in the middle of last month, along with many other important developments, we are starting with a BIG BANG!

Industry News

Synopsys to acquire ANSYS

In one of the largest transactions of engineering software domain, 新思科技 decided to acquire Ansys . The combined company will have a projected revenue of more than $8 Bn and a growth rate well ahead of the double-digit mark. Implications of this development cannot be estimated now. End users, competitors and market pundits are still trying to assimilate the possibilities.

Dotmatics Acquires M-Star CFD

Dotmatics , a leader in R&D scientific software, recently announced its 13th acquisition of M-Star, a leading CFD software company. M-Star reduces the simulation time drastically from hours to minutes of runtime. The software is appreciated by customers for its efficient management of complex fluid dynamics simulations, allowing users to perfect the 'recipe' in a simulated environment before transitioning to the physical setting. This streamlined approach results in significant time and budget savings.

Gamma Technologies acquires Powertech Engineering S.r.l.

Gamma Technologies , the global leader in Multiphysics system simulation software has acquired GammaTech Engineering (PWT), a leading CAE service provider. They have also created a new team, GammaTech Engineering (GTE), which will collaborate with PWT. The newly developed team will help to develop and install advanced methods for complex systems that are very important to the successful transition towards a sustainable future.

“Markets Change. Our Proven Approach Won’t”, says James Scapa, CEO Altair

With the acquisition of Ansys by Synopsys, it was imperative that the Simulation industry will undergo turbulence. There will be speculations both within and outside of Simulation companies, especially among the market leaders.

Product Release Updates

Hexagon Simufact Additive

海克斯康 launched the Simufact Additive solution. A simulation software for process design, virtual testing and optimization of metal-based additive manufacturing. This solution will enable the engineers to design and predict the entire machining process virtually before the entire part is manufactured by the 3D printing.

ANSYS SimAI?

Ansys expanded its ever-growing solutions portfolio with SimAI recently. The much-anticipated addition of the AI toolkit will empower engineers with more virtual testing and creative design options. SimAI? is a (SaaS) solution, and the company claims that it accelerates the design process by 10-100x. Based on our understanding this is a physics-agnostic solution and will benefit users from all industries and applications.

Altair AI Edge

New vehicles are equipped with cameras capable of streaming video to computers, which employ a pre-trained AI model to label each frame. This AI model deployment, represents the ideal approach for achieving high speed, ensuring swift processing of images, videos, audio, or other extensive data sources. The current method employed by major automotive companies requires large teams of full-stack developers to implement this technology. However, small companies may not have developers who can write complex computer codes.

To overcome all this, Altair announced the release of its new innovative solution Altair AI Edge, a new hardware device which is compatible with both Altair? IoT Studio? ?and?Altair? RapidMiner? which will make it easy to solve AI image challenges.

Industry Events

Future.Industry 2024 Flagship Event by Altair

Altair announced its annual Global Flagship Event Future.Industry 2024. This Global Virtual event will take place on March 6 and 7, 2024. The theme this year is Science of Possibility and aims to bring together thought leaders, industry experts, and visionaries to explore the trends and technologies that will shape tomorrow’s world. This event expects to cover the latest advancements in computational sciences.

NAFEMS Regional Conferences

NAFEMS released its schedule for regional conferences this year. The events are spread across America and various European territories. Please follow the individual abstract submission deadlines and registration information on the link below.? The agenda for these conferences revolves around current trends, challenges faced, best practices, and cutting-edge technological advances that have taken place and will in future shape the future of simulation.

ECMS International Conference

This year the European Council for Modeling and Simulation (ECMS) International Conference is being organized by the Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications of Cracow University of Technology, Poland from 4th to 7th June 2024. ECMS has been a valuable platform for researchers and practitioners in various fields. Conferences like ECMS play a crucial role in fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and advancing the state of the art in simulation systems and modeling techniques.

Technology Focus: Sustainability

In this edition, we are highlighting two interesting articles which are worth a read in this context.

Simulation & Sustainability

The intersection of sustainability and simulation is a fascinating area that leverages modeling and simulation tools to address challenges related to environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Industries and OEMS have already started adopting simulation techniques to optimise processes for sustainability. However, there are areas which can use simulation tools for sustainability.

  • Environmental Modeling: Simulation can be used to model and simulate environmental systems, including ecosystems, climate patterns, and natural resource management.?
  • Supply Chain Management: Simulation helps in modeling and optimizing supply chains to minimize waste, reduce carbon footprint, and enhance overall sustainability.
  • Urban Planning: Simulation is important in urban planning to improve transportation systems, traffic flow, and land use.
  • Social Systems Analysis: Understanding the social dynamics of communities and societies is crucial for sustainability.
  • Waste Management: Simulation can be used to model and improve waste management systems, helping to minimize the environmental impact of waste disposal.
  • Climate Change Modeling: Simulation tools are essential in modeling and simulating climate change scenarios.

These applications contribute to a data-driven, holistic approach to creating a more sustainable future. Conferences like ECMS serve as platforms for sharing insights in this interdisciplinary field.

IMPACT Report of PTC for FY2023

美国参数技术公司 recently released its IMPACT Report for FY2023. This report emphasizes the initiatives taken by PTC on environmental, social, and governance issues. The detailed report of 64 pages has the message from the PTC CEO Elect Neil Barua. It also covers steps taken for minimizing the carbon footprint using technology and also customer involvement, investments in NGOs which are working towards reducing environment impact, inclusion and nurturing diverse cultures in their human resource and good governance of ethics and integrity.

Conference Summary of the LCATS

“While policies are pushing transportation towards rapid electrification, even achieving 100% electric sales is not going to eliminate all ICEs anytime soon. The Transportation Energy Institute showed that even 100% plug-in sales by 2035 would translate to ~ 266 million ICE vehicles on the road in that year. Even in 2050, the legacy fleet will be ~ 40% ICE powered. Reduced carbon intensity of fuel is the only op on to decarbonize these vehicles.”

Dr Ameya Joshi provides Conference Summary of the Life-Cycle Analysis for Transportation Symposium (LCATS) held in November 2023. Do follow his “Mobility Notes ” page for more such interesting information.
