SimplyPut on Process Mining

Many organizations today spend a great deal of resources 'reengineering' and 'transforming'.? Business process reengineering is mostly concerned with what the improved process should be and less concerned with how the process is currently performed. Little or no thought is given to creating an environment so processes can change as the business changes; the only constant in business today is change and adaptation. Enter process mining.??

??

What is Process Mining??

The goal of process mining is to discover, analyze, monitor, and improve real-world business processes by extracting knowledge from event logs.? It is a powerful tool that can help organizations to understand how their processes are actually working, identify areas for improvement, and make better decisions about how to allocate resources.?

??

How does it work??

Process mining works by extracting information from event logs, which are records of all the activities that take place in a business process. These event logs can be generated by any type of information system, such as a CRM system, ERP system, or even a simple spreadsheet. This data is used to create a process map.? The process map shows the steps in the process, the order in which they occur, and the resources that are involved. Process mining can also identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and other areas for improvement.?

??

There are three main stages in process mining:?

  • Discovery: The first step is to discover the actual process flow, even if it is different from the documented process.? This is done by extracting data from the event logs and using it to create a process map.?
  • Conformance: The second step is to check if the actual process conforms to the desired process.? This is done by comparing the process map to the documented process.?
  • ?Enhancement: The third step is to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for how to improve the process. This is done by analyzing the process map and identifying bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and other areas for improvement.?

What Industry Leaders are Saying??

“Process mining is the future of business process analysis.” – Michael Hammer, Founder, and CEO of Hammer & Company?

“Process mining is a powerful tool that can help organizations to improve their efficiency, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.” – Gartner?

“Process mining is the missing link between data and process improvement.” – Wil M. P. van der Aalst, Professor of Business Information Systems at the Eindhoven University of Technology?

How to Get Started??

  1. Choose a process to focus on.? Not all processes are created equal, so it's important to choose a process that is both important to your organization and has the potential to be improved.? Don't try to do too much, create a successful foundation.?
  2. Gather data. Process mining requires data, so you'll need to gather data from your organization's IT systems. This data can include things like event logs, transaction records, and customer feedback.?
  3. Choose a process mining tool. There are a number of different process mining tools available, so you'll need to choose one that is right for your organization.?
  4. Analyze the data. Once you have gathered data and chosen a process mining tool, you can start to analyze the data. This will help you to understand how your process is actually working and identify areas for improvement.?
  5. Implement improvements. Once you have identified areas for improvement, you can start to implement changes to your process. This may involve changing the way that the process is documented, changing the way that the process is executed, or changing the way that the process is monitored.?
  6. Measure the results. It's important to measure the results of your process mining efforts to ensure that you are getting a return on your investment. This can be done by tracking things like cycle time, cost, and customer satisfaction.?

Process mining depicts a visually appealing and data-based view of process performance.? This will attract the interest of senior executives, who can easily see where problems and opportunities lie.? It will reinforce an organization's dedication to data-driven decision-making.
