Reportedly, TikTok’s Testing a New Instagram-Like Photo App

TikTok is reportedly developing a new app called "TikTok Photos" as a potential strategy to compete with Instagram. According to The SpAndroid, recent discoveries in the back-end code of the current TikTok app indicate references to "TikTok Photos." These code references suggest that TikTok users may soon be encouraged to share their static images on this new platform to connect with others who appreciate photo posts.

Additionally, there seems to be a new welcome message for the app, indicating its imminent launch and the intention to assist users in expanding their audience. The message states, "TikTok Photos will be launched soon, we hope to help you gain new audiences in the new app. If the switch is on, we’ll sync your public photos to the new app, whether you close the pop-up or not." The development of a separate TikTok Photos app aligns with TikTok's recent introduction of a "photo mode" for still images within its platform and its encouragement of users to share more photos.

What does this mean for my brand?

The potential introduction of "TikTok Photos" offers new engagement opportunities for your brand. Your brand's presence on TikTok or Instagram could benefit from the introduction of "TikTok Photos," providing opportunities for:

  1. Expanding your content strategy with static images.
  2. Reaching diverse audiences who prefer photo-based content.
  3. Gaining a competitive edge by early adoption and building a following before competitors.

In summary, TikTok Photos could diversify your content, expand your audience, and offer an early adopter advantage for your brand. Adaptation and informed strategy can maximize benefits on this new platform.

Google Adds Social Media Posts to Google Business Listings

Google has expanded its integration of social media profiles with Google Business listings. Now, a new section called "Social Media Updates" displays recent posts from connected profiles directly in Search. Businesses can link Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, and X accounts via the Google Business dashboard. These updates are automatically populated based on linked profiles, though manual linking is encouraged. Last year's update allowed more businesses to showcase their social profiles on Google Search and Maps.

What does this mean for my brand?

The integration of social media updates into Google Business listings offers your brand:

  1. Increased Visibility: Recent social media posts are directly visible in Google Search, providing more exposure to potential customers.
  2. Enhanced Engagement: Users can engage with your brand from the search results, fostering interaction.
  3. Consistent Brand Presence: Displaying social media posts alongside business information reinforces brand identity across platforms.

Overall, this integration improves visibility, engagement, and brand consistency, potentially boosting traffic and conversions.
