Simply... from the gut! - Part II
It has been a great start to the New Year. Our annual kick-off in Paris is a very unique experience where almost 50% of the organization come together from around the world every year. We usually have a few sessions on innovation- demo of a voice activated application to provide complex analytics on software intelligence by two young engineers from our India division was my favorite this year. This time, the goody bag handed out to all of us by Marketing also had a very innovative gift-a RASPBERRY PI and that’s what I’m going to talk about today.
It was cool assembling this single-board computer over the weekend, load the LINUX operating system and start doing some basic stuff by connecting to my big home TV screen while alternating the input interface between a keyboard and a mouse. It was indeed a fascinating experience and when I did some further research on this organization, I was amazed by the goal of this charitable foundation- “promote the study of computer science and related topics, especially at school level and to put the fun back into learning computing.”
It is the era of Software Intelligence. The most important challenges in business today, revolve around technological change- those who embrace it whole heartedly are the ones creating the biggest value for the investors. It’s interesting to see that the top 5 largest companies in US by market cap are all technology companies and the industrial sectors driving growth in other sectors are the ones who have made technology advances a priority- financial industry, health care, consumer discretionary and Industrial to name a few.
Now, imagine the scenario- applications are going to be developed at a faster pace as newer development technique are available today and organizations will have a lot more of application software to manage. However, it is going to be increasingly difficult for organization to ensure that it is safe and secure and there is no new incremental risk due to outage, security, performance etc. We have all seen the negative side of this with some high-profile incidents in 2017. The good news is that the Board and CEO have realized that to ride this tiger, one needs to embrace not only technology but the Software Intelligence that goes together with it. Welcome to the new era!!
