Easy Guide to Configure Multiple Display Mode for Windows 11 24H2 using Intune
With the release of Windows 11 24H2, Microsoft has introduced a new configuration setting in Microsoft Intune's Settings Catalog that allows IT administrators to manage multiple display modes seamlessly. This feature, available starting from Intune Service Release 2501, simplifies the process of configuring display settings for enterprise-managed devices.
The Configure Multiple Display Mode setting enables organizations to predefine how monitors behave, whether extending the display, duplicating it, or using only a secondary screen. This eliminates the need for manual setup, ensuring a consistent user experience across managed devices.
In this article, I explore and explain step by step how to configure this setting in Intune, allowing IT teams to standardize display configurations efficiently and ensure that users have the right setup without manual intervention.
Benefits of Configuring Multiple Display Mode with Intune
This configuration is particularly beneficial for organizations that rely on multi-monitor setups, remote workstations, training environments, or kiosk deployments, ensuring a seamless and controlled user experience. By leveraging Intune, businesses can streamline IT management, reduce support requests, and maintain a consistent display policy across all Windows 11 devices.
Uses of Configure Multiple Display Mode in Windows 11 24H2
The table below highlights the key use cases of the Configure Multiple Display Mode feature in Windows 11 24H2 devices. Before deploying this policy, ensure that your devices support multiple display modes to take full advantage of this configuration.
Creating a Configure Multiple Display Mode Policy in Intune
To create a policy for configuring Multiple Display Mode using Microsoft Intune, follow these steps. First, sign in to the Microsoft Intune Admin Center with your administrator credentials.
Creating a New Configuration Profile
In this step, we will create a new Configuration Profile from scratch. To begin, select the following options:
After selecting these options, click Create to proceed.
Defining the Basic Details
On the Basics page, start by giving your configuration policy a clear and descriptive name. You can use "Configure Multiple Display Mode" or a custom name that aligns with your organization's naming conventions.
Next, provide a brief yet informative description of the policy. For example, "This policy configures Multiple Display Mode settings for Windows 11 24H2 devices, ensuring a standardized multi-monitor experience."
Once you've entered these details, click Next to proceed.
Adding Configuration Settings
Now, we can add the required settings to the Configuration Settings pane. To do this, click +Add settings in the bottom left corner of the page.
Note: Microsoft testing has shown that adding more than 400 settings to a single policy may cause performance degradation. While improvements are ongoing, it’s recommended to keep this in mind when designing your policies to ensure optimal performance.
Finding the Multiple Display Mode Setting
In the search bar, type "Multiple Display Mode" as a keyword. This will help you quickly locate the relevant policy for your configuration needs.
Once the search results appear, you will see the "Display" category listed under Browse by category. Click on it, then select "Configure Multiple Display Mode" from the available settings.
After selecting the setting, close the Settings Picker window to proceed.
Selecting the Display Mode
On the Configuration Settings page, select Extend from the drop-down menu. You will also see other options:
After selecting the desired mode, click Next to proceed.
Configuring Scope Tags
On the next page, leave the Scope tags as Default unless your organization has specific tagging policies. If your tenant uses custom scope tags for role-based access or policy segmentation, select the appropriate tags based on your company’s requirements. Once done, click Next to proceed.
Assigning the Configuration Policy
At this stage, assign the configuration policy to the appropriate device groups. Click Add Groups and select the relevant group(s) under the Included Groups option.
In this example, I assigned the policy to the Test_ISOLTech_Policy group, which contains the target device where I want to configure the multiple display settings. No Filters were applied, and the Excluded Groups option was left blank. However, depending on your organization's policies, you can refine the assignment by using filters or excluding specific groups as needed.
Once the group selection is complete, click Next to proceed.
Reviewing and Creating the Policy
On the Review + Create page, carefully verify all the details of your Configure Multiple Display Mode policy. Pay close attention to the Name, Description, and Assigned Groups to ensure they align with your intended configuration.
Once you’ve confirmed that all settings are correct, click Create to finalize and deploy the policy.
Monitoring the Deployment of the Configure Multiple Display Mode Policy
The Configure Multiple Display Mode policy has been successfully deployed to the Test_ISOLTech_Policy device group. Once the assigned devices sync with Intune, the policy will be applied automatically.
To monitor the deployment status in the Intune portal:
Regularly monitoring the deployment status helps verify that the configuration is successfully enforced across the targeted devices and allows for troubleshooting if needed.
End-User Experience – Verifying the Configure Multiple Display Mode Policy
Now, it's time to verify if the Configure Multiple Display Mode policy has been successfully applied. To do this, log in to a device that is part of the targeted policy group.
You can check the display settings by searching for Projection Settings in the Windows search bar or by using the shortcut Windows Key + P. This will display the available projection modes.
If the policy is working as expected, the default mode should be set to Extend, as configured. This confirms that the policy has been successfully deployed and applied to the device.
