Simplifying Father’s Day for Busy Women

Simplifying Father’s Day for Busy Women

A study of American workers found that employees waste an average of 6 hours per week duplicating the work of others.

Interestingly, 46% of working women today report feeling burned out - a stat that’s higher than their male counterparts, continuing a trend that has been climbing steadily over the last several years.

As a Resource Manager - I can’t stand burn out. I’m drawn to “solve” it. And while I certainly can’t do that for every woman reading this - I do have a perspective to offer. In general, when addressing a group of people who are over-utilized - in this case, women of LinkedIn, one of the first things I’d suggest is not to redeploy the work to someone else, but rather, to understand if this “work” really needs to be done to begin with. If an option for streamlining, reducing, or eliminating the workload exists, let’s do that first before reassigning something non-essential to yet another person. As part of this assessment, if the dreaded “duplication of effort” was discovered, that would be the first thing to go.

Well this got me thinking- are we, as women, duplicating effort? I suspect we are in many situations, but the one that stuck out to me was - if you can believe it - Father’s Day. That’s right, Father’s Day is fast approaching. Not to suggest everyone is in the same boat here, but for those of you in my boat - the one that involves purchasing a gift for a Father in the next few weeks, I KNOW for a fact that we are duplicating effort doing research before eventually landing on “the gift”. Given that I was looking into gifts for my own purposes anyway, found a lot of really strong contenders in the process, but ultimately settled on one item, I couldn’t stomach letting all my hard work go to waste, especially when I know so many of you are currently doing this same research. So, in the spirit of taking back some time for ourselves, and of women helping women, and of using our business savvy to benefit us in our personal lives, below you will find my list of Father’s Day Gift options for the dad in your life. I hope this saves you some time as I know you don’t have much to spare.

$279

eufy Security - 2 Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Home Security System

This is a highly rated security camera, that would be a great gift for dads who like to keep an eye on homefront, and it's currently sale for $90 off.

$449

Microsoft - Xbox Series X 1TB Console – Black

I personally decided against this one, as it would turn into a chore keeping my little ones away from it, but I will admit it was tempting!

$399

GoPro - MAX 360 Action Camera

This looks really cool. The great reviews and $100 markdown put this near the top of my list. I can envision lots of adventures with this in tow :)

$140

A Terrycloth Camp Shirt by Onia

This one was a bit of a wildcard, but I love the retro cut of the shirt and can definitely picture this as a solid choice poolside this summer...?

$75

Reebok Men’s Classic Sneaker

The Dad Sneaker. Sort of a safe bet, but its hard not to like the stylish, yet comfortable vibe of this shoe. I personally love the white and green!

$27

Gap Swim Shorts

These are classic, come in lots of colors and they are 50% off right now!

In case you are wondering, in the spirit of full transparency:

yes, I may earn a commission if you make any of these purchases

yes, I really did spend time looking through each of these (and many other ideas) to consider them as options for Father’s Day gifts

no, this is not what this newsletter will be like from now on. I wanted to try something new that could help other busy women check something off their to-do lists

Happy Shopping ??

I encourage my kids to make and design their own Fathers Day cards and write lovely messages. If he is lucky he'll get a bag of m&ms or some beer to go with it! 1. Its cheap!! 2. Its from them so I don't have to spend time searching for a present 3. Its environmentally friendly - one bit of paper folded in half and some coloured pens are all you need 4. The messages are soooo cute and he's kept them all over the years so we can look back now they are teenagers and remember what lovely little people we used to have ??
