Simplifying the energy transition - how can we use Generative AI to help?
In February 2024, ChatGPT ranked number?18 in top Google searches?globally with 127,500,000 searches, according to Exploding Topics.
In the same month McKinsey published an article updating their 2019 report ‘Australia’s automation opportunity: Reigniting productivity and inclusive income growth?predictions’. Back in 2019, they had estimated that 44 % of Australians’ time at work could be automated through adopting generative AI. They revised this in 2023, to 62% of existing task hours being automated. And then, last month, they suggested that it could be between 79 and 98% by 2030. That is staggering growth.

Businesses still at the starting line in AI race
Ignite: Interesting insights from brands and leaders in the field on AI adoption. A concerning point is that, with 90% of Australian workers using AI in daily tasks, only 17% of Australian workers using AI have received training. As the title suggests, the Australian AI adoption landscape echoes themes seen in the US . AI is coming, just not as fast purported.

OpenAI's Whisper is another case study in Colonisation
Ignite: A pretty eye opening read and important take on data sovereignty in light of OpenAI’s recent NLP tool ‘Whisper’. Data ownership rights aside, the authors ask an important question on the need for consultation prevalent to culturally significant applications of tools utilising data. “If we release a synthetic voice that mispronounces te reo Māori, we further damage the language already negatively influenced by English vowels and intonation."
